Show me: your hall (not foyer) lighting

The 80s-looking brass lantern-style ceiling light in the upstairs hall has to go. I want brass, because the handsome ceiling light in the foyer is older brass (original to the house, 1964) and you can see the landing from the foyer, but they don't have to match. All the door/window hardware in the house is brass, mostly older.

What's in your non-foyer hall ceiling?

One hall has recessed lighting and the other has this:

Crud, I took a picture of my ceiling lighting, came back to post the pic and noticed your specification of your hall (not foyer) lighting.

I do like your fixture and checked to see if I could install something like that-I have can lights :(

Downstairs, we just have those ugly and inexpensive boob lights. Upstairs, is worse, we have round 80's globe balls; neither of which offer great lighting. I like the idea of canned lights for a hallway Mustang. I know they aren't the prettiest lighting to look at, but they aren't ugly either. If you have closets or in our case a small mud room, good lighting makes life so much easier, canned lighting is the best for that.

Rgrs, that's a nice looking light. How far down does it hang? Looks like you have higher ceilings (and wonderful moulding!) than our 8'ers.

I could do can lights, but then I would need more than one, and I'd want to shoot the works and go for Solatubes with integrated light. I'm hoping to stay on a budget and just replace one fixture.

Is there a guideline for how far above the floor a light can in a walkway?

We have the lovely globe lights as well in the hallways. I really think that light rgrs has is lovely. I think other than interfering with doors opening or closing that would be fine. I was looking to replace the entry foyer light, but the door opens close to it, and it will get involved moving it - but otherwise unless you are a super tall family (like 7 footers--- dh is tall but just over 6 feet) there should not be a conflict.

We have an L-shaped hallway in our lower level. Each section has two of these:

In tiny hallway between kitchen, walk-in pantry, powder room and guest room:

Can't find picture of small fixture between laundry room and kitchen. Doesn't look like Hubbardton Forge makes anymore.

The ceiling is 9 feet. The fixture comes down about 10" or 11". Good point about making sure the doors open. Nice fixtures Allison.

I have this one from Circa Lighting (also sold elsewhere but this is where I purchased from). Moved it from our old apt and now in the upstairs hallway in our house.

Ours are cans, but late night we have these little night lights that plug in. Enough light to walk anywhere. they are in each bathroom, hall, stairs, and a couple downstairs in case you need to go down there. I love the little night lights.

I love little night lights, too, Desertdance. If I end up installing an additional fixture, I'll have a couple more outlets put in for night lights.

theclose, that is an interesting light, kind of Art Deco-y?

allison, the one with the candelabra echos my foyer light. Picture it in brass, with a glass cylinder around it, and it's similar.
