Still looking for the right rug ...

In my quest for a new rug for this space I ordered a couple of runners per your suggestions. This one came yesterday. I tend to decorate very monochromatic but wondered if my room needed a touch of color so I tried this one out. I should note that the rug is a touch brighter in person. What do you think?

I think the first rug you had in your previous post was perfect for the room. I dont care for any of these ones.

    I have to say no.

What do you think? I know you must want something new, but I like the current rug, but not the runner so much. It looks very different in the 2nd to last photo, tho', and if it looked like that, it might be okay.

Prefer the original rug, also because I personally prefer rugs that don' t have center medaillons. Also, it's hard to say what the actual color of the runner is. It looks a lot lighter on the later pics --- which I like much more.

I do like the blue rug but not with the wall color or window treatments. If you change those out the rug would look good with your furniture but on my monitor the walls look greenish beige which doesn't do much with the blue rug.

I can't tell - is there blue elsewhere in this space? I'm not crazy about the runner shown here, but I can envision a faded denim blue with a bit more cream/beige tones throughout. Think old, well-loved blue jean-color overall.

What about a big Seagrass/ sisal rug?

You could add color from your drapes on pillows& throws?

very pretty room- love your chesterfield sofas!

I'm not liking the blue runner either. I don't really have a accent color in the room and think that's why I'm having trouble trying to find a rug to add color. The curtain have two shades of gray one has a hint of taupe but leans more to the grey side. I have some green moss accents on the fireplace and coffee table. I could add pillows to the sofa but I almost like the chesterfield sofa style with no pillows. My current rug is too small otherwise I would just keep it. Auntjen I like your idea with the blue denim type look. I'm also not opposed to changing the curtains. The wall color is Berkshire beige. I don't really see green but a taupey grey maybe?

I just googled my wall color and this image popped up! This is the look I love. I think I'm trying to force a pop of color where I don't really need it! This look is just clean and beautiful to me. What do you think? Should I look more toward a neutral rug similar to the picture? Or am I headed in the wrong direction. I know what I like when I see it but I second guess myself on the execution if that makes sense.

I like the neutral rug idea or as someone mentioned above- how about a textured sisal rug for your space. We have a sisal from Pottery Barn that has been super. Pops of lime green in the above photo are great from the hydrangea stems and green apples

i would get a larger sisal or seagrass rug and layer the current rug on it.

I really like the colors of your current rug. I bought a sisal and then added a rug on top. It is a thought.

Ha! I just came over here to recommend aktillery's rug for Lorishopaholic!

Lori, based on my many rug mistakes, unless I'm dealing with a traditional persian or Oriental rug, which tend to stand on their own regardless, then my best rug choices were when the primary colors in the room were secondary colors in the rug. This is why I found your new, big rug posted the other day too monochromatic. The blue runner above doesn't work because there is no other blue in the room and it doesn't have secondary colors that coordinate with other elements in your room. Your current rug which may be too small or not the style you're seeking, works well visually because it seems in the first photo above to have secondary colors that complement your walls and furniture.

My vote would be a sisal rug, as suggested above, or a rug that has your wall, drapery and furniture colors (all or at least 2 of them) as secondary colors in the rug... not the primary backdrop color of the rug.

Your latest post with the dining room with cream chairs seems like the rug would work well in your LR.
