Reuniting with an old friend

Today I took a notion to get out my sewing machines (all 12 of them) and try them out a little. The first one I opened was the first machine I ever owned. It's a Brother from 1965. I sewed around the world and back on this machine. I had put it away because the repairman said it had a broken bobbin hook. Since I didn't really need it at the time I didn't get it fixed. It has been stored away for a few years. When I opened it I found an extra hook inside the case. So I thought maybe I should try to swap it out with the bad one. After doing this it still didn't work. I was still determined to figure this one out. I re-threaded it, checked the tension, and finally thought about changing the needle. None of these worked. Some of my machine needles thread from the side and some from the front so I wondered if this might be the problem. BINGO!! After turning the needle hole to the side the machine ran fine. Now, I am wondering if the bobbin hook was broken in the first place??? And to think I have avoided this old friend for no reason at all. :c(
