October, 2015 Quilting/Sewing Goals

Where has the time gone? Only 3 more months until the New Year. Unbelievable!

I feel a bit brain dead in planning any goals this month so I hope that clears up! I really do want to send in 3 blocks for the lotto this month and I have 2 completed so that might happen. I also have a couple of boxes of quilt tops to mail out. I'm sort of between projects, so it'll be a good time to play catch up with Zelda .......... I need to fill a lot of bobbins, too. Oops, just remembered, I have a wedding at the end of the month.....thinking about a table runner but don't know if they use them or not.

What's on your agenda for this month?

I finished another Halloween table topper and ghost for my DIL this morning - good start to the month!

I have a baby quilt that needs to be finished before Oct. 22 and my Pfaff is in the shop so I am piecing on my Featherweight and hope to get my other machine back so I can FMQ when I am ready. I need to get a start on some Christmas stocking stuffer things, too, so will start pulling fabrics. If I get all that done, it will be good!

Beverly, I also have three tops to quilt. One is for our godson's HS graduation next June, so I have time! LOL One is on the frame now so I should finish quilting it tomorrow.

I got a beginning kit for Japanese braiding called Kumihiko at the quilt show last Sat. I drew my niece's name for Christmas so I think I'll make her a necklace and maybe bracelet. It seems to go quickly so I should have plenty of time.

All 3 packages are ready to be mailed......including 3 lotto blocks. The 7th Zelda block is nearing completion and squares are cut for the 8th block. Now to think about a border for this Christmas table runner.

I would love to get these 2 baby clothes quilts done! I do finally have a plan. I found a layout of different size blocks and cut all the sizes out in muslin. I'm then cutting the clothes to fit on the muslin blocks and will assemble. I was having a really difficult time figuring out how to cut the clothes to work together, especially since the mom said she wanted different size blocks.

I keep getting side tracked on so many other fun projects I also have going, like by Sewn Seeds quilt. I'm loving that quilt!! And I just about have my new long arm all put together and some test fabric purchased so I can start playing!! My 14 yr old son even wants to play on it. I may have a new helper????

And I still have a hand applique project I'm working on (wall hanging of the Old Point Loma Lighthouse). Slow but sure on that one.

It's the 11th......packages were mailed and received, Zelda 7 is completed and #8 is almost all together with some of #9 squares cut and bobbins are filled ready for the next marathon. I pulled out a BOM (Everything's Coming Up Roses) from 2005 I was working on........mine is in purple and will have lilac fabric for the border. The blocks are 15" and 7 are already together....I really thought I had more than that made so might just make one or two more and say that's all I need. Never mind that I used some of the fabric in other projects!

What's your favorite way to make potholders?

My goals were met this month. Plus, I have one more border to sew on a black and white with red cornerstones....I might get that done today. It will end up being about 48" by 58" and have pretty much depleted what I had of black on white fabric. I've surprised myself in a lot of ways this month. I'm now thinking about the next quilt top to make. Maybe a Floating Pinwheel?

I have met my goals, and may get one more finished this week!

I have 2 lap quilts I am giving to the Hospice house I want to finish. My walking foot quit working on the second one. :( There was a spring in it that had come undone so the Bernina guy fixed it for $25. I was figuring I would need to buy a new one and they aren't cheap so I was happily surprised.

One quilt is done, one has binding hand sewing 3/4 done, third needs the hand sewing. So, I will finish all three of these this month! I promise to post pictures. :)

I started my second braiding kit about a week ago. This one has beads, and I am not loving it! LOL Part of it is just getting in a rhythm and having the beads end up where they should. I think part of it is also that 8 of the 16 strands are chenille ribbon (fairly thick) and the beads are much smaller (#10 seed beads, I think). I think if I had thinner cords (or fewer of them) it would be easier to manipulate the beads into place.

I think I'll use an 8 strand braid with beads for my niece's necklace.
