What color silicone to use between the backsplash & counter top?

Our countertops are Frosty Carrina and the backsplash will be white glossy subway tiles. The grout we plan to use is from TEC, light grey - Silverado.

I saw the slabs and the countertop is a lot whiter than in the picture.

1. What color silicone should I use for the joint between the backsplash and the countertop? I read it should match the grout, but our contractor is suggesting clear colored.

2. What size should the joint be? 1/8, 1/16th?

Would love your feedback and pictures if you have it for inspiration.

Thanks!

I would use white to match the backsplash.

I would match the grout. Clear can look dark or shadowed if the line is wide. If your contractor says they can't find color matched silicon you can order it online. One supplier I know of is http://colorriteinc.com

Alternately, a tile shop should be able to special order you matching caulk.

This is what you want, trust me.

I'd make the gap as wide as the grout joints.

What is it about that one that you love, Joe?

It is a clear silicone with just a hint of white which seems to give it a chameleon ability. It will look like liquid Frosty Carrina was pushed into the gap, I promise.

    I used it here.

Hi Joseph - the silicone looks amazing, but I'm in Ontario, Canada. I can't seem to find it :(

    Ann:

Contact Dani Homrich at www.danidesigns.com. He's in Rochester, Michigan, not too far away. I'm sure he can ship to Ontario. He sells Axiom brand but it's still 100% translucent white silicone.

Joseph can this silicone be used on Quartzite and also Cambria? Neither abut tile. Would like to change my clear silicone on Quartzite counter and backsplash and where this may have a bit of white I think it would much nicer.

    It will work fine.

@Joseph - good news! I spoke to Dani about the Axiom translucent white.

I have a question about filling in the joints. There are some minor ragged edges where the fabricator cut the quartz countertop. This is where it meets the wall.

Will the translucent white silicone hide these? I know it's not clear colored, but wondering if it will fill in and mask some minor cracks?

Thanks Joseph! One more thing, would it look good against my white bathtub? We'll be using white subway tiles with light grey grout again, but had planned to use white silicone. Or, would it be best to use plain white for that area?

Do a 2" test of each. It will be obvious which would be the best choice.

Hi Joseph - good idea. We'll be using the translucent white in the kitchen first, so it will be a good test. Thank you :)

Thank you from me too, Joseph. Ten years ago a contractor used this on our kitchen and bath (about the only thing he did right) and I've been looking for it ever since (we are in Canada, too). Just like you describe, it is like a magic colour that blends and hides so that it pretty much disappears.

daisychain1 - I'm so glad you like it. We can't wait to apply it! I'll post the results.

Hi, I'm using callacatta nuovo caesarstone. Do you think this translucent white will be better than clear? My fabricators gave me a choice between white and clear. The white looks horrible, the clear is shiny.
