My martini table arrived today and...

What do you think? Does it work? (Ps...my kiddos were using the pillows to throw at each other...lol).

    Lmao!!

I think it looks great! I much prefer it to the white table.

I think it works well. Pretty chairs!

With the chairs so close together, it's better without a table. Maybe a floor lamp behind them could give the illusion of separation.

Try it forward so it's slightly in front of the chairs... see how it looks, so it doesn't look a bit squished between the chairs. I think it's going to be great!

Yes, try it forward. That's how I place mine that are outside. They are small enough that it doesn't feel intrusive to have them forward.

It needs some breathing space so either move the chairs further apart or put the table in front of the two chairs where they meet. (lift the table up and put it in front leaving the chairs as is). I think that is what others are suggesting but not sure.

Martini tables to me, always seem to be a usable (sort of) piece of accent art so they really need to be set up with space around them in a room.

No doubt it's a cute table, but the large chairs make it look as though it belongs in a dollhouse...the chairs drawf the already small table. There also needs to be more space between the chairs/table. Maybe you could use a framed round mirror to the table to increase it's size. I understand the look you're going for but find the variation in size a bit off putting.

Agree with patty cakes. I think my round table between my chairs is 24" and just slightly higher than the arms. The martini table can't function as a table in between chairs. Hope it works to pull it forward. What were you trying to accomplish with that table?

It doesnt work for me, it is too small compared to the big chairs and too crowded into that space, sorry

What might work better would be to get a second one and put each on the outside of each chair, if you can swing it $$-wise. And actually move the chairs a tad closer to each other in that case.

I was going to offer my opinion on the other thread but you had already ordered it. I don't think it works. I think a wine table would look nice.

I kind of like it! I think it lets your chairs be the focal point, but it's sort of a practical landing place.

I am totally with you on the kids interpreting "throw pillows" literally...:)

Did you decide on a rug yet?

The table appears to be too far back for someone to actually place something on it without reaching back. It needs to be pulled forward. Otherwise it just looks like you're trying to fill the space.

So, after sitting in my chairs with my morning coffee, I like how low it is. Plus, it's kid-proof! My kids were horsing around and knocked it and it didn't even budge! Call me crazy...it just feels right. However, I did move the chairs farther apart and I think that helps. I also agree with Butternut, that my chairs steal he show.

I guess I'm looking for someone to reassure me that it's not appalling to the eye...lol! I don't want people to walk in my hose and be offended in my table choice. Lol!!!

No way. It's a wonderful table. A few lifetimes from being "appalling".

Definately not appalling, if it works for you and you like it, that is all that matters, right!

Not appalling at all -- just looked a little cramed and it sounds like you resolved that and like how it works. It is a bit eclectic -- and I tend to like those choices.

Sometimes function needs to win. This is one of those times. I agree to move it forward and separate the chairs more.

I, too, think it's too small. But if you push the chairs away from it slightly so that it doesn't look so crammed, I think it'll work ok. Of course, it's entirely up to you. You asked to be reassured that it's not appalling. I can assure you that. But if you are looking for assurance that it's terrific, I can't. I, myself, would look for something different - but - it's all about what you like and what works for you! My opinion is not critical to your satisfaction.

So here's the room. You've got the left chair pulled over to show off the fireplace, but for all intents and purposes, that fireplace is no longer of much importance. The seating is ignoring it, so you should too. I would try moving the chairs to the left, bring them into the seating area closer, and straighten them, then see if you could fit a small table of normal height between the chairs. You could also add a lamp as I don't see any lighting.

If the martini table must stay, I'd try a floor lamp between the chairs and see if it might pull this together as a vignette. Where the chairs are now a lamp won't work with the doors as backdrop. If you could get the lamp to fall between the door and fireplace this might work. Simplify the mantel so the lamp acts as art. Sofa may need to move down a foot.

Or remove the right chair all together and put a round table between the sofa and chair. Done.

@ Butternut: Your comment on kids and "throw" pillows had me dying! Of all the pillows in the house...the 4 from the sofa take the most beating! They've been used for forts, slides, flying objects, and comfort. Some days, it makes me crazy!

No on the rug. I'm taking my time. I went to another depot and found some amazing Ousak rugs that were so beautiful...and soft. That particular store is having a huge rug showcase in Nov. She told me to bring everything!...my painting, cushions, and pillows. She said she will find "IT"! We shall see. I'll keep you posted. Thanks for asking. :)

If you put the table in front of the chairs, it wouldn't look so dwarfed by the arms of the chair. It would be almost level with the seats.

I like it! I really love your chairs btw! Added bonus that it's kid proof!

Since you said this martini table is kid-proof as it didn't get knocked over, I wonder if it would work next to your hub's chair since a right-hand table will be near a traffic area? To my eye it does look about the same height as the white table and while this one looks better color-wise and shape, the height is still throwing things off.

I do agree with Mayflowers about modifying that seating area but because of your hub's chair, not sure the sofa can be moved down, would it be possible to switch the wing chairs with his chair, or would that block the traffic flow more?

I like it. Most of the time the viewer will be seated on the sofa or chair. I think it was a good idea for solving your problem. It is functional and the color goes well with the chair legs. You can always tweak it later if you change your mind. Love the chairs.
