Flooring Road Bump! Existing vs. New - What would you do?

Need help deciding what to do.... we are looking to install hardwood floors in our home BUT we are stuck on WHERE to do them....

Here is what we have:

**Open concept - from front door to back door (front door to circular foyer, to kitchen, to living room to back door and study) so it all flows and the back door is visible from the front door and vise versa...

We have carpet in the LR, BDRM's, Study & DR.

We have 13x13 Breseals Noce Tile in the = Entry, KTCH, BATH's & UtilityRM.

We have 42" Maple Flat Cabinets with New Venetian Gold granite and i ultimately want to redo the cabinets white (by a professional - i am not patient enough to let paint dry before continuing any work, ;))

We want a distressed wood floor - something along the lines of these styles:

We will keep carpet in the bedrooms BUT the BIG question is:

Do we keep the tile or rip it out and install wood floors throughout?

If we keep the tile that means the entry, kitchen, halls & bathrooms will stay the same (which i dont mind the tile, its pretty neutral) and the wood floors will be in the dining room (left of the front door when walking in), living room & study only.

I vote: remove as much tile as you can (leave bathrooms only). The kitchen tiles are matched to the dark cabinets. Once they go white...you are going to notice that it isn't working. You'll then be tempted to change out the kitchen.

In essence you are about the "reverse" your colours. You will have the "white" that is currently on the floor (carpet and tiles) move to the cabinets and the cabinet colour switch to the floor. It is a handsome combination (your eye obviously pulls to these stain colours...which makes it SUPER EASY to get the colours to switch places).

I would highly recommend getting the wood to run into the kitchen as well (leave the baths and utility room...it will be a handsome contrast to the hardwood). Your white cabs will look very handsome with the dark floors (just as your dark cabs look great with your light floors).

Carpets are still widely accepted in bedrooms but many people are removing them to continue the hardwood throughout (all but baths and utility rooms). I'm not a fan of having only 2 rooms in hardwood and the rest tile. It can look odd depending on the set up.

Thank you Cancork Floor! I didn't even realize that we were ultimately swapping colors (light floors & dark cabinets to dark floors & light cabinets). I love the idea of having hardwood throughout but I wasn't sure if my love of that would be everyone else's (for resale value) and I have heard a lot of cons about stepping out of bed onto cold wood floors but I guess that's what rugs are for. I appreciate the feedback!!
