Would you accept this repair?

Brand new construction. I have a bank of drawers where I used a wider pull because the drawers are wider.

They obviously did not check this before pre-drilling for hardware. (Excuse the dust)

It's in a low visibility area and a pretty good repair but my heart says I want perfection and have a right to ask them to re-make the drawer fronts.

Do you notice it from normal eye level?

I noticed it right away. It's on all three drawers in the bank. The counters are not on yet. I will forever know the defect is there.

Yea, might as well switch them out then.

I would make them redo the drawer fronts. This happened to me on one drawer and I had them order a new front. Something like that will drive you nuts and it was a mistake on their part.

I would certainly ask them to re-make the drawer fronts.

I do not think I would accept that repair. I agree that new drawer fronts are appropriate.

Tough call- rock and a hard place. They couldn't have not done pre-drilled holes?

It would bother me to have brand new cabinets with repaired holes. I would have done my best to find the same size center to center pulls so I didn't have to repair and redrill, but that horse has left the barn.

Or, I perhaps would have tried to find pulls that covered the pre-drilled holes, like a semicircle pull.

What are your options at this point? Could you have avoided this or are you in any way responsible for this? Seems to me something got lost in the mix.

Agreed. They owe you new drawers.

Nope. Sorry but I wouldn't like that. You deserve new doors. It's not a big deal to replace 3 drawer fronts. Just make sure they carefully match the stain well to the rest of the island. (We don't want another Lisa_a fiasco like she had with her hutch!)

If you feel you have a right to ask for the drawers to be re-done what difference does the opinion of unknown entities on the Internet make? Having said that I think it's a pretty bad error and they should replace the drawers or issue a credit that you can live with. Full price= doing the job right. Not a hack and patch.

rebunky, since this looks like standard stain, not an opaque stain, matching the stain color shouldn't be the headache it was for me.

mama, I'd definitely ask for new drawer fronts. If it had been your error - you'd told them the wrong size for the handles - you'd have to live with it or pay for new drawer fronts, but it wasn't your error, it was theirs.

    No.

    I would not accept that

Nope...new drawer fronts are definitely in order here.

Ok, Thank you. I don't want to be too demanding is all.

My cabinets were built locally. The installer called the shop to re-make one of my drawer fronts because he didn't like the way it looked (and he won't install anything that doesn't meet his high expectations). I never even saw the original one. The cabinet maker kept telling me "I just want you to be happy", and he meant it. Hopefully your contractor feels the same way.

    Yours is a do-over.

I agree with others, you need to ask for them to be remade. It will drive you crazy to aways see that mistake when you look at the drawers!

No, I would have them order new doors even if it turned out to be due to my own mistake and an additional fee. It would bother me every time I saw it.

I also think they should be replaced BUT, two points. Expecting perfection only leads down the lonely road of bitterness--you can ask my first four ex-wives. Also, you of course would automatically see it. When I built my first house, I had a problem with the nail gun and had a couple courses of shingles actually meet (instead of having a standard reveal). I was sure everyone in the world would notice it, but in 15 years (when I replaced them), not ONE single person ever noticed.

If I was paid to install the hardware, then it would be my responsibility to do it correctly. That's a replace. The repair will work until the replacements are installed and the hardware correctly installed.

It's an easy mistake to make, especially when you're using different sized hardware in places. Doubtful they will make that mistake again anytime soon.

You can't just hand a bunch of similar looking handles to an installer and expect him to figure it out every time.

It needs to be notated on the plans and/or a project manager (or hardware provider) going over the placement.

I can't believe any contractor would even expect you to accept that.

I asked my project manager to let the cabinets guy know I'll want replacements.

do not accept that is a sore eye. It looks like a kid would have done it.

Kat - did they provide the handles , or did you ?

They provided the hardware and everything was clearly spec'd about these handles being wider.

If they provided them, and was detailed in the plans - replacement cost is on them , no question.

I would have them replaced. You paid for a job done correctly, this was not.
