Tell me about your Red Climbers

I am working on the front landscape being a mainly Red/Burgundy/Berry/Maroon/Plum color palette (among a lot of greenery of course) and I have several areas that I'd like to put climbers on. Looking for NON orangey reds. Good rebloom. Non-Fading. And I'd love help with which rose to place in which location. Here's wha tI'm considering ordering:

VARIETIES:

-Red Eden (already have this)

-Don Juan (already have this)

-Florentina

-Blaze

-Quadra

-Dublin Bay

-Cl Crimson Glory

LOCATIONS:

-A Wooden Garden Arch

-An exterior wall of the house covered in stone facade with a window. Gets sun for a few hours a day and very bright shade the rest of the day. Could probably put something here that isn't as heat tolerant.

-A long metal fence by the sidewalk. It is maybe 4 feet tall. Could take one or two roses of the same or different varieties. Open to suggestions...This area gets a lot of sun so I need something that won't fry in the heat.

-A couple wooden fences that are between 6-7 ft tall.

I've attached a photo of the front yard. The photo below is borrowed from thegracefulgardener (such inspiring photos there!) but her rock facade is very similar to ours.

Excited to hear your thoughts and suggestions!

We have Blaze and Cl Crimson Glory - I love both of them, but the Crimson Glory has the most amazingly strong "old rose" scent, so it is my favorite. Also, it is darker, and has sort of velvety petals.

Both of ours get about 4 hours of sun per day, and are perfectly happy. Also in zone 9 (or 10? - they keep changing things!). We are in No Cal.

Blaze stays red red here, and Cl Crimson Glory fades towards burgundy - sounds just what you are looking for. Here are two pics of my Cl CG:

I've had Dublin Bay about nine years I think. It's a great bloomer during the spring flush and has a few blooms almost continuously throughout the season. Has a very light fragrance. Mine has had good disease resistance.

Jacqueline- those photos are lovely! The color does indeed sound spot on. How large would you say crimson glory gets? Better for a fence or arbor? How is the rebloom? Approx bloom size?

Sara-Ann- Your DB is beautiful! I'm not sure if it is the photo but it seems like a bright red tone? Would you describe it that way? How is the heat tolerance since my zone is much different than yours so I'm not sure how it might do here! Hope someone chimes in.

The photo is pretty accurate as far as color. Where I live we have hot summers, lots of days in the low to high 90's June - August, usually with at least a few low 100's in there at some point. Mine is on the east side of my house, which is probably a good location.

My Cl CG gets to about 8 feet - not a huge climber. As you can see, it is sharing an arch with Sombreuil. It blooms in the Spring, and then has scattered bloom all summer, and then in the Fall it blooms a lot again. Blooms are large - I would say they eventually open to 4 inches. Mine does not get much care, so if you are someone who babies roses it will probably bloom more.

Really wondering if I should add FLORENTINA to my palatine order. Anyone wanna chime in on this variety??!

I have climbing CG. She doesn't get too huge. Susceptible to Powdery Mildew. Flowers do age to purplish. Nice perfume.

Love the Austin look so thank you for enabling me, oldrosarian! I added Florentina to my order so we shall see how she does!

My Dublin Bay is in full sun and it is an enthusiastic climber. The red stays pure red no matter the weather, and we do get plenty of 100+ days. It's still blooming today, in fact. Another I love that is still blooming a pure red is Crimson Sky.
