The railing is only about 36 inches high.

So new code is probably 42” I guess it depends on what your style is but I would do glass to keep the light feeling you could have it with wood or metal.

I would leave the railing and simply finish it in bronze to coordinate with the light fixtures. I would eliminate the fans if possible, if not then change out to white to blend with the ceiling.

Beverly, I could take the fans down, I haven't really thought of that. What would you put in their place?

If you just need lights I might consider a bronze lantern.

If you need the air movement, I would consider plain white fans without light kits attached.
