Hello, Joy, Your lighting plan looks very good. You might want to add one in front of that tall panty though. I would NOT take any cans away, you can't have too much light in a kitchen, if it's too bright ever, just dim them with the dimmer you'll be installing. Undercabinet lights are a great addition to the layered lighting you should strive for, but will not suffice as the main lighting for the kitchen. :)

Absolutely, you can never have too much light and can always dim. My thought is to pull the recessed cans from the edge of the countertop and use for ambient light as opposed to task lighting. Thanks for your input.

We do not use spot type lights inside kitchens anymore.

Todays sealed LED light fixtures have a nicer look, put off less heat and use far less electricity. They come in a variety of light colors as well.

One not so great side affect is that the dimmers are minimum $60 each.

We also recommend a hanging light over the sink.
