Genius Screen Zig Zag vs Brio Screen 612 retractible screens

I'm installing panoramic windows in my home and want to install a retractable screen. Brio 612 and the Genius Screen Zig Zag.

Does anyone have any opinions one way or the other?

    Which did you use?

I used the Brio for reasons I couldn't tell you now. It may have been because the company that sold the panoramic doors only sold Brio or that's what their installer was more experienced with.

How do you feel about your decision? We have an 8' high, 11' wide opening, and we're going to do the Panoramic door. Considering Brio, but want real life review/opinion. Thanks in advance.

Hi Amy - I've had the Brio for a while but it hasn't had much use because the remodel isn't done and I haven't moved in yet.

What I can tell you that the customer service has been really good. The installer made some mistakes and Brio has been very helpful with helping me get the screen right.

Sorry that's not too helpful but hopefully better than nothing.

Looking to get retractable screens for large sliders. How much are they approximately per square ft? Did you order thru the window/door vendor? Wondering what is the best way to get a quote. Thanks!

It's been so long I do not remember the price. But I do recall it seemed expensive for a screen. I ordered through the door vendor at the same time I ordered my panoramic doors.

uscpsycho, thanks for the info. Is the housing obtrusive? I see from the brochure it is possible to do a pocket installation. How did you have it installed? Thanks

There really isn't any housing, it just accordion folds together and is fully exposed. There is no enclosure. Here's how it looks when it's fully compressed:

Not sure what you mean by how I had it installed, the person who installed my panoramic doors also installed the screen.

uscpsycho, thanks for the pic. It is very helpful. If I am understanding the brochure info correctly, I think there is a pocket installation where all one sees is the finger pull when the screen is closed. That is why I was asking what kind of installation you went with.

I don't believe that was an option when I purchased mine. It wasn't offered to me and I didn't see it in any of the literature. I would want an enclosure rather than having the screen exposed so I recommend getting it.

I have an 8' tall by 11' wide opening where I'm installing a Panoramic folding door. I got a quote for a retractable screen with installation from Phantom for like $2,700. I believe the Brio retractable screen uninstalled for my door is $1,000. I was leaning toward phantom because I couldn't find reviews about Brio and Phantom is a "brand." However, I saw the Brio again yesterday at my local home supply store, Friedman's, in Santa Rosa and decided to just try it, since it's less expensive. I believe the whole screen is integrated into a frame, you just install the whole thing as one piece. The contractor I'm using has done one before, so hopefully it will be relatively straightforward.

Looks like I need to find a local showroom and go take a look and get a quote. Thanks

Amy, how were you able to find Brio locally? I have been googling and can't seem to find them at all

Panoramic doors uses these screens with their folding doors. You can look up their showrooms. I'm in the SF bay area. I went to their SF showroom. Also, my local store, Friedman's in Santa Rosa, has one on display. Check with any local suppliers of folding doors to see if they have them on display.

Thanks for the info. I have two openings. Both are 8' tall. One is 10' wide and the other 20' wide. I am in the LA area. My window/door vendor has not heard of Brio. They are pointing me to Centor.

I contacted a local "screen" company. They rep a company I hadn't heard of, Genius. I think they are relatively new. https://www.geniusscreens.com/products/door-screens/zigzag-screen. Prices were comparable to Phantom. For my 8' tall, 11' wide door, they recommended the accordion type of screen (like Brio) vs the Phantom. It has a full frame, and a nice, locking handle. It also can open from either side. It turns out that while the place I ordered my folding doors (Panoramic) reps Brio, they do not have a display. I was able to see one at my local home store, Friedman's. It didn't look like it has a full frame, and the handle was flimsy and had no lock. I have a call in to the Panoramic rep to confirm.

I had contacted Brio directly via the website. Still have not heard anything back. I guess I will have to go the same route and contact some local "screen" companies and see what is available. Thanks

@amypearl @uscpsycho chiecking to see how your experience has been with the panoramic doors over the years. Considering putting them in our new home, and a bit concerned from all the negative reviews on their service (or lack there of! )

Overall we've very happy with the panoramic doors. We haven't used service as my spouse is quite handy. The only issue we've had is with the door lock. It has needed adjustment several times.

@Remodel Newbie I've been happy with mine. And the two times I needed serious support they were beyond excellent. Maybe I got lucky but I have no regrets with the company.
