jack and jill bath...do i use the same vanity on his side as i do her?

I guess you would call it a jack and jill bath? she can enter from her bedroom but he can not. My son will enter his sink area from the hall then there is another door straight ahead of him that enters the shared toilet and bath area then you turn to your right (thru another door) and that will be my daughters sink area which is connected to her bedroom. Do I need to use the same vanity in both areas? DH says yes but Im torn since the area actually 2 separate areas with 2 doors between them. This is upstairs and no one will even use these bathrooms except them and their friends. Our master and all living areas are downstairs (inc a powder room)

No, and I'd customize her cabinetry for hair styling tools and make-up storage.

I think they should relate -- that is, same wood tone, same type of sink -- but I don't think they have to be mirror images.

I would make them the same. If you ever sell the buyer might have 2 boys:) I would not customize either for a specific sex.

Eh, you are building a custom home, and to me, these types of decisions are what make a home "custom!" I would absolutely use different finishes for each child's vanity. I imagine you aren't planning on moving in the near future, and even if you were...I don't think this is a situation that would cause people to not consider your house. It is a relatively easy fix to slap a new stone remnant on one of the tops if a buyer were so inclined.

No. You can even paint them different colors if you like! (Doing what you want is the whole point of building a custom house.)

I'd give each child a "powder room", with just a shared bathing area. Or even a separate "bath room".

Because what if he/she "has to go" when he/she's just started a long shower with shampooing? Lots of yelling and door pounding.

One idea (but I'd use pocket doors to save space).
