I am guessing that there isn't any light on the ceiling. Can you add some chandelier in the middle? How about some recess lights?

Thanks for the feedback. There are no lights in the ceiling above the living room. I was hoping to not have to hang anything from the ceiling as it's near our entrance which has a chandelier there.

You could do recess lights if the hallway one is too close.

Interesting ideas. Recessed lights will cost a decent amount of money I assume? The pendant style lamp in the corner was there a style you thought would work there? When I look online for that type of lamp I see them normally centered in the room. I assume track lighting over the painting or windows wouldn't look good?

Depending how easy is to get wires there, recess lights wouldn't be more expensive than track lighting. The nice track lighting is pretty expensive from what I saw. You would need to talk to a local electrician to see how much it would cost

I suspect recessed lighting would be more expensive than track. Track lighting requires wiring pulled to a single source, whereas can lights need it pulled to every light plus each can must be individually installed.

That said, track lights would not be very appropriate for this space which seems to be having an identity crisis. The architecture of the space is contemporary, while furniture, curtains, and lighting are a real mishmash of styles.

Do you just want to figure out lighting? Or would you like to work on the whole space to make it more cohesive? I assume the table under the TV is temporary?

My guess was based on our ongoing basement project..we were thinking of doing a modern track or cable lighting for one room and the costs would have been much higher than recess..it's true that it is an unfinished basement, so wiring is easy now.

Talk to an electrician and get the pricing first and then you can decide
