There are lots online when you google "bayberry pillar candle." I don't know if that's quick enough for you. I'd check Pier One, Cost Plus, Target, Body Shop if you have those locally.

Ah, but have you smelled the real thing? Not bayberry scented, or even the highly mixed with wax ones in some of the links in this thread? Real ugly dark grayish army green all bayberry with nothing else in it? Bayberry scent is horrid (always makes me think of gift shops from the 1960s); true bayberry is as different as the difference between a rose and rose-scented air freshener.

Thank you very much for all the suggestions. I think she used to get the "real" ones-- they were a pale sort of avocado green, with a mild but very distinctive scent.

I just reread original request & realized that pillar candles was what is wanted. Unfortunately, those @ the Williamsburg site are not pillar candles & I can only imagine that could be quite a bit more expensive, considering how labour intensive true bayberry is....

Well, it could be molded, although it took a heck of a lot of bayberries and even more skimming. My mom had one shaped like a Christmas tree, which lasted for many, many years even with burning it every Christmas Eve/day + when they entertained during the holidays. It was older than I was and they still had a fair amount of the bottom of the tree left when they retired, which was when I was in my 30s.

But these days I expect that Delilah66's link is probably the best you're likely to find for pillars. Must be a lot of wax mixed in to be so pale.

Without any beeswax at all, bayberry is just too brittle for stores to stock/ship. The added beeswax stabilizes the candle, but does not make the candle fake when real bayberry is the base for the candle.

ETA: I found this shop that says " No artificial scents, paraffin, or chemical wax fillers." I have not ordered from them before though and beeswax is not an artificial scent, paraffin or a chemical wax filler so these candles may in fact have beeswax. IDK. Shaker Bayberry

No, not fake, Delilah, but the amount of wax can vary a lot and it seems unlikely that candle with a high percentage of bayberry could be ivory colored.

The Shaker candles look like a good find, although wax myrtle (Myrica cerifera) isn't the same species as the northern bayberry.

we would get the tapers and put them in the tub when we went to sleep so they could burn out on their own.

I love Tyler Candles, made right here in Tyler, Tx. You can really smell them *while* they are burning, not only when unlit. I can't recomment any Christmas scents yet, since I bought them for the first time this summer.
