Most blooms you've had on a hybrid tea rose during a flush?

Just out of curiosity, does anyone recall what's the most blooms you've ever had on a single hybrid tea rose bush during a flush of blooms? High normal on a few of my hybrid teas is between thirty - thirty-five blooms. The most I can remember during a spring flush was well over fifty blooms on my Forgotten Dreams bush, it had a few clusters that time, it usually blooms in all singles, like the sample here, which was taken this year.

I do not grow HT's anymore but when I grew Precious Platinum which I think is classified as a HT it had approx 50+ roses open at once in the late summer/Fall... The blooms lasted 10-16 days here so it had blooms 99% of the season...

I guess I make such a big deal out of bloom production, because when I first began trying to grow roses, nearly thirty years ago, I didn't get a huge number of blooms. I thought the pictures I saw of a hybrid tea with lots of blooms was just a fantasy, not something I could actually achieve. After years of trial and error, I finally figured out what I was doing, I learned that even a hybrid tea can put on a good display of blooms! I just love to see one with lots of gorgeous blooms!

Number of blooms is strongly dependent on pruning technique used.

Jim, yes his roses are amazing! Thanks. Thank you Nik, I do know you are correct on that.

Jim, it is interesting that you bring up your Precious Platinum again, I loved seeing pictures of it come back "to life" in the spring in the other thread. It looks more like a shrub in full bloom than a HT, I like how large it gets and how many of those huge blooms it puts out. I just can't find anywhere to buy it online. I know you've shovel pruned yours but where did you buy it?

Oh, wonderful. I placed an order for Forgotten Dreams a few weeks ago...will be my very first HT.

Arlene, I think I planted Forgotten Dreams in 2002, it's been very dependable. Has a great fragrance too. Hope yours does good for you. Do you have other roses?

Sara-Ann, It's nice to know FD has done so well for you and it looks just gorgeous in your photo. My interest in roses is very new so I only have a few - mostly Austins so far. Strong fragrance is a quality that I am really starting to look for as I'm starting to get into cutting my roses to bring inside. FD was included in an Heirloom sale a few weeks ago so it was somewhat of an impulse buy based partly on what I read of its great fragrance. Is yours an own root?

Arlene, I wish you the best with your wonderful new hobby! My FD is grafted, I ordered it from Edmunds who no longer carries it. I have begun to grow several own root HT's and the results look promising. There are many good HT roses that aren't available grafted.

Some other very fragrant HT's I have are Tiffany, Firefighter, Pink Peace, Memorial Day, Perfume Delight, Grande Dame, Beverly, Francis Meilland, Big Momma, Bewitched, Chrysler Imperial, Cinnamon Dolce, Double Delight, Big Momma and Buxom Beauty, all grafted. I also have La France, which is own root, heavenly fragrance! An own root granfiflora, English Perfume is wonderful. A couple of other grandifloras that I have which are fragrant are Twilight Zone and Fragrant Plum. Probably way more info than you needed or wanted, but I enjoy sharing.

Austin roses are new to me, I have a couple, there are several I'm interested in, they are beautiful.

Sara-Ann, That is a very impressive list of fragrant HT's! Twilight Zone is one I have been eyeing...the color in pictures reminds me of blueberry pie. My challenges have been finding fragrant, shade tolerant roses hardy to a zone 5/6 winter. The ones that seem to do well in my garden don't have much fragrance to speak of. I'm thinking of Julia Child and another no-name blush/white mini rose that just pumps out blooms. I appreciate them for all of their good attributes but wish my nose could enjoy them as well.

Sara-Ann, that's a beautiful pic of Beverly. Is she a solid pink, or are there usually different shades of pink in it? This one has lovely lighter and darker shades to my eye. Love Liebeszauber too, what a name!

Thank you Lisa. So far Beverly has been a lighter shade of pink with some white shading. The pictures I've seen on HMF show a deeper pink, but with some white also. Either way it is a beautiful rose. Seems to have a tendency to be very prolific. Certainly hope it survives and proves to be even better, first season for me, so far I love it, very healthy bush. Liebeszauber (also Love's Magic) is a good red, it can get very tall by the end of the season, blooms almost constantly.

Behind that pic of Liebeszauber I see a gray pot. Exact same pot I have here from Walmart...

Anyhow great pics of your roses Sara Ann... :-)
