Auntjen, my love of Valentines Day and of the other holidays, comes from my childhood, too. I don't have a SO to celebrate with, but still put out a few decorations for Valentines, usually some vintage fancy candy boxes, some antique and antique looking cards. And a few other items. I love the color after the dreariness of January.

Yes, the colors cheer me too! I wouldn't ordinarily use a lot of pink in my decor, so I enjoy having an "excuse" to do so. :-)

Nope. Ds is Chinese so we do a few Chinese New Years things instead. We do the front door signs. And a bowl of lucky oranges on the table. Make some paper lanterns out of construction paper.

I used to decorate for Valentine's every year. :)

I have heart-shaped grapevine wreaths for each front window, and heart lights around the front door (woven in with grapevine). I have two lighted hearts for outside (at my former house, I put it on the light post in our yard and would put red bulbs in the sockets-4 of them). My daughter and the neighborhood kids loved the cheesy decor. :D

This year, I'll probably just do the grapevines on the windows (they're natural color, not red). Funny, as we were putting up Christmas decor (attic), I saw my V-Day tote, and thought about what I'd use this year.

My my! There are some decorating divas on this forum! I don't decorate for V-Day but I DO enjoy the day and always make up bags for my grandchildren (like I do for Christmas and Halloween too). Just last night I found a cookie recipe I'm going to make for their bags for Valentine's. I'll make a trial run with them first. After reading the reviews, I have a couple of tweaks I need to try.

Not so much here. I live in a guy house. I've made them heart pizza, heart cookies and heart brownies and bought colored M&Ms or Hershey Kisses. There might be some red flowers in the house and that's about as decorated as we get.

I don't decorate, but everyone gets a card and a gift, as it's a pretty big holiday for us. DH and I were married on Valentine's Day and this will be our 35th anniversary. Our children were also christened on Valentine's Days, so it is pretty special. Now that DH and I are empty nesters we go to the ballet or some other performance in Atlanta and stay overnight, have a few meals in lovely restaurants (which we don't have in our small town).

I'm in a guy house, too, so I put up two red straw heart wreaths on the front doors, the guys get little valentine candy treats, they get me flowers, we make a nice dinner (usually salmon: heart-healthy, get it?)

I leave up my little red yarn Scandinavian guys from Christmas in my kitchen curio, so they are my indoor splash of red :)

My guys do get gifts and a card and we do something special for dinner. I don't think we've done homemade pizza since the oldest went off to college -- and/or Papa John's started offering heart shaped pizza. KInd of takes the special out of it. Just never decorated beyond cookies, cupcake or school projects.

I would do a wreath on the door though.

When my children were growing up we always kept a "seasonal" display on a table or sideboard. Christmas gave way to snow scenes in January and then the red and pinks of Valentines Day would show up, augmented with flowers and a growing collection of cards they had made over the years. Now days if I'm feeling sentimental some of those very early cards come out, sometimes housed in the heart shaped candy boxes I seem to have collected. I also like to bring out red, white and gold vases, and red candles on the dinner table. And if I have the time I'll make my own Valentines to send to friends and family.

I don't have any pics--but yes I have a collection of small ceramic/wood heart boxes, a mantle swag that is ALL hearts and pink, I even began a few years ago keeping velvet topped candy boxes that I pile up in the corner of my stairwell on the landing. Actually if you must know I have a computer paper box (or two) for every month/holiday that I swap out as the year goes on. I like my home to be perpetually FESTIVE! My 21 yr. old came home from college at Christmas and said we have the most "homey" house she has ever been in. MUSIC to my ears!!!

A little when kids were younger. It's not a big holiday to me and as long as I get my Godiva chocolates, I'm good :) My hubby, a romantic, really isn't too into the holiday either. When we moved and downsized I got rid of all my heart shaped decor.

My dad would always remember Valentine's Day by bringing home hearts filled with chocolates. One large one for my mother and a small one for each of the kids (all 7!).

I have a red wood heart that I will hang by the mail box the first week of February. Between now and then, we have Gasparilla to celebrate!

i used to decorate for vd when the kids were young, but don't anymore... if anything, i often will decorate for mardi gras. often, i leave our christmas wreath on the front door, take off the christmas balls/pinecones/berries/bow and will put mardi gras colors on it and sometimes a pink and red bow for vd(depending on when mg is), but this year our wreath already is turning brown, so don't think that will happen...

we do 'celebrate' valentine's day tho- i will make a special dessert and will give cards to my family and little gifts. my hub usually will bring home flowers which i then have to find a spot for away from the cat...

I don't decorate for Valentine's Day, but we do take notice of it. Although we show our love daily, what's not to like about a day that recognizes love? My parents also always gave us small gifts on V-Day, so I guess I came by it honest. Hubby and I will do something to celebrate the day; we usually enjoy a romantic evening at home with a nice meal. Our anniversary is in February also KSWL, 34 for us.

I decorate for Valentine's Day. I have small wreath made out of pink and red wooden hearts that I hang in the kitchen window, and I fill the large vases that live on my mantel with conversation hearts. I know I have a few other things, but I can't remember what they are. I guess I'll find out in early February! We always get the boys a small box of chocolates and a small gift. DH and I exchange cards.

I know a woman with an extensive collection of vintage Valentines, which she's framed and hung en masse in her powder room. I guess everyday is like VD in that little space.

Thanks for sharing what you do and how you observe the day. I still think fondly of the little kiddie cards we exchanged in elementary school. We carried them home in our decorated shoeboxes. A few years ago, just for old times sake, I made my parents a card of red and pink construction paper with hearts I cut out and affixed to white paper doilies. That was like going back in time for all of us!

Yeah, it's a soft baby pink. I couldn't get the color to translate properly with my phone.

I think the At Home stores used to be Garden Ridge. We've got one here but I've never stopped in.

No decorating, and I do not like heart motifs.

We have always given cards, and my adult children have always received a gift in addition. When they got older, it was a check.

This year, they are getting a pre-lit Pencil Christmas tree like the one I found this past Christmas and I have posted photos of. They all loved it and asked for one for next year. I found them to be half off after Christmas. Since DH and I will be out of the country for Valentines (my gift from DH), I told the children that they would be getting trees for a gift ahead of time. I must remember to buy those cards!

Those hearts are really pretty, Lars. I would never have thought you could make something smooth and shiny out of styrofoam. Did you sand them or use a special kind of paint?

Jen, found the bowl on Amazon but I'm spending $43 on a mixing bowl that I don't need, isn't in the budget right now. Plus, being earthenware, it would be heavy, but, they make some really cute designs/colors! You can scroll down to the "customers also bought..." section and see other Mason Cash designs.
