First of all Piratesof...are there any arborists-tree experts of any kind-in your area? Those local-based folks are going to be your best resource. Additionally, if you can post a photo or two, showing details of foliage, twig ends, trunk, etc....it will help us greatly. The old trick to see if a given stem has life in it is to scratch a tiny bit of bark off with your thumbnail and look for green cambium-the layer of living cells that exists in living stems. Try that in a few spots for starters. And if the soil is very dry, then watering may be called for.

I was in the Philippines last February...beautiful country...as to your question I would say plant another it looks like this one is a goner...I noticed that mangoes seem to be weakly rooted and have a tendancy to blow over. Sometimes they survive I seen a number of them like this in the pangasinan region.

I have taken these photos several days ago. The Mango Tree seems to have lost its last few green leaves by now...this is so sad. However, our helper says it's still alive. Perhaps it is?

The problem is that there seems to be a large hole beneath the uprooted soil. A member from another forum says that I could try putting compost and then watering it. Would you advise this?

I have tried scratching the bark off the middle of the trunk. The wood underneath is dry and brown. It does not seem to be greenish, as you say. However, do trees actually have a "Greenish" layer beneath the bark? From what I know, it is normally light brown in color.

I hope this tree is still alive. I feel so sad for great, beautiful things that go.
