Dupont Zodiac London Sky - Has anyone seen it in real life?

last modified: 9 years ago

My countertop people have an awesome price on Zodiac London Sky. The only problem is I can't find real life installation pictures online. The only one I can find is from Dupont. Has anyone installed it or seen it in real life? My thanks to all the brilliant folks here.

Looks like London sky to me. Hard to tell from picture but the slabs do have diagonal veining. Looks different when cut to size. Tag on the edge should tell what it is.

Completely reliable source and I talked to the fabricator in Seattle area about it and they verified it was from them. I'm not putting them in. I might drive the 7 hours there to pick them myself. So frustrated!

Our Zodiaq London Sky display has that same diagonal pattern veining in it. Installed, it looks really pretty.

Cynthia, I can't see the seams in your tops. They did a really good job. Is there a seam on your island? I thought max slab size was 120 with 119" of usable material....they don't offer jumbo slab sizes.

London Sky is one of the nicest marble looks in the industry.

Here is a photo of my display top. I enhanced it a bit to show the veining...it was so bright with the lighting, it was hard to photograph realistically.

So sorry to hear cambrienelson that it seems so far off from what you were thinking. I can show you a picture of mine if you’d like, but honestly your photo does look like London sky. A great big slab can be deceiving when your use to looking a smaller pieces. Frustrating for you though I’m sure. Hoping everything eventually works out.

Here are some photos from a budget kitchen remodel I did last year. The homeowners were wanting new quartz tops on their old original 1940's kitchen cabinets that looked pretty rough. We used a budget cabinet with Zodiaq London Sky. Here are a few pics she sent. You can see the diagonal pattern here as well.

Cambrinelson, I think you might really love them. They can look a little boring in plain slab form. Installed, they look great! Pictures don't do them justice.

So I'm moving on away from London Sky. I emailed 4 of the pictures from this very thread to this manufacturer of Zodiaq London Sky. I talked to her by email and phone and she claimed that the pictures (from this thread) could not be London Sky. It is possible that people could be posting something else and claiming it is London Sky. So, I'm not sure who is right, all I know is that I've wasted a lot of $ and I'm giving up on it. I hope my posting this helps someone else.

And, for comparison sake: 2 pictures below. First is the one that they shipped to me (with 2 others pretty much exactly like it), and the 2nd is a picture she emailed to me of one they still have in their slab yard. Obviously they sent me the worst ones. Lesson learned: choose them in person!

The Kitchen Place: the fabricators really did do an awesome job on my counters! No seam on my island! Still not one regret on my London Sky choice. Cambrienelson, maybe you should go with a different source?

cambrienelson - I am considering the London Sky and saw your post about the slabs being different than the samples. Went in to see it for myself and the guy at the warehouse said that they changed the veining in the London Sky sometime in the last year. Still pretty, but less veining than I wanted. Did you find an alternative? What did you end up going with?

Sorry I cannot help you. We decided to use soapstone, quite a different look. But I still had London SKy in my mind for a future bathroom reno. Good luck.

I have sample of the first version of London Sky and understand it was Dupont’s version, and their design changed recently when they became Corian. So sorry to hear about Cambrinelson‘s experience.

Two weeks ago I had a London Sky remnant installed in my bathroom. My kitchen/bath designer said I did not have to look at the slab/remnant because it would match the sample. Unfortunately, I believed him. Although it is very pretty it does not meet my bathroom color scheme needs. (Looks similar to cambrienelson's above pictures.) Through a clenched stomach (mostly because the top was so pretty) I continued to challenge this issue and I'm glad I did. I stood my ground through subtle comments like, "I've never had anyone else complain" and "It will be a lot of work to replace." Now, 2 weeks later, my designer just called to say London Sky's overall look DID change when Corian took over and even the sales reps weren't aware. Really!? I was told the original will be returning to the market this April. They will replace my countertop and I have learned a valuable lesson.... always see items before installation even if you hire an expensive designer. It also reinforced that it is okay to nicely, but firmly, hold your ground when you know something is wrong. One of the many benefits of being middle aged.....been there, done that! :)

Cambrienelson and Nancy Dennen—this is/was my experience, exactly with Corian London Sky! I was so disappointed after seeing multiple samples in person and photos online (matched my samples). They had soft swirls of veining, but when a slab came in, it looked completely different! I just didn’t care for it. The slab has long, thin veins running diagonally and evenly spaced. It looks just as the last photo. My husband and I went to Parksite in Chicago area to view samples, as I was CONVINCED I’d find a slab that looked just like the earlier photos and my samples. Nope! ALL looked almost identical to the delivered slab and the later ones posted on this thread. Really not happy. My designer said it is possible the formula changed. Interesting to hear Corian may bring back the former look (which I still say is better). In the end, we are going with Silestone’s Pearl Jasmine and Eternal Statuario for two baths. Very different from Corian London Sky, but it was better than continuing to find something that looked “sort of” like the London Sky I had fallen in love with. My only other gripe is Silestone will cost a lot more (I’m told.).

Attached are recent photos of a Corian London Sky slab at the supplier warehouse and the one delivered to my builder that I didn’t care for. Also, I was told by the supplier I am not able to pick out and tag a particular slab of Corian quartz. Supplier said I’d just get any slab in the stack based on when I ordered. I saw very slight differences in veining, but none looked like my large samples from my builder.

One more thing—in my photo on the right, the larger, square sample on the bottom left propped up against the large slab is London Sky. While I realize it’s a very small sample in comparison to a slab, it definitely looked very different in the style of veining. It had soft, blurry markings and looked very similar to other (older) LS samples. Even my builder agreed the slab was quite different and suggested I go to the supplier to look at other slabs (which looked the same). Sigh. I hated starting over. I almost agreed with using the slab delivered, but it would bug me, I think, after falling in love with the other version of it.

Hi, we had London Sky installed in our kitchen within the first year it was in production with DuPont Zodiaq. I am using a remnant for a guest bath and when I saw it in person today, I was so surprised that I started looking online this evening. Our kitchen looks just like most of the finished product photos posted here but the slab I saw today is just like the longer veined slab others have posted toward the end of this discussion and wondered about. It has clearly changed and although I’m going to use the remnant because it will be on a separate floor in our home, there is a very significant difference. Personally, I would hope DuPont reverts back to the older or original pattern, as suggested here it might or will this month.

Can anyone provide updates on whether London Sky reverted to the original design or if it is still the “new” thin directional veining?

We are wondering the same. Did you have any luck finding that answer?

I love London Sky. We get many compliments on it. We picked it from a small sample and it was hard to see much on the internet of an actual kitchen done with it.

We paired it with painted cabinets in Ben Moore Snowfall White. We are very pleased as it timeless and neutral.

We are so happy with our London Sky counters. Installed May 2019. They tone down our white cabinets, as they are not bright white. Would use again when we build. Stay well all!

Dupont Corian Quartz (formerly zodiac) in London Sky was installed 2 years ago. Yes the veining to me is directional but once installed I loved it and I am .... picky.

The price point was the dealbreaker.

Dupont‘s Quartz was (is) sold in full and half slabs. Most vendors are full slabs.

we kept our cost down and got a fantastic product!

FYI...the Zodiaq name change to CorianQuartz never actually changed who owned and operated the quartz facility. Dupont just changed the brand name....which was really dumb IMO. It's NOT Corian and just causes confusion. Zodiaq was a fine name and I still call it that! LOL.

I agree that when you see the directional patterns in a big slab it can look unattractive....but once installed, it's gorgeous! The only other reason I might stay away from Dupont Zodiaq/Corianquartz is they don't offer jumbo slabs and depending on a layout, that could be a big dealbreaker for a lot of homeonwer's kitchens.

I am calling it CorIan quartz because that’s what their website calls it. That’s what my brochure said.

As a kitchen designer I know it is not the product CorIan which is different and came out decades ago.

The name can be misleading , I don’t see where it’s published currently as Zodiac although it certainly was called that a few years back.

i Think everyone knows the CorIan name and it was probably a marketing tactic to add the CorIan branding.

As we are in the Industry we know but to a new buyer it may be confusing.

Either way it’s the same- Zodiac or CorIan Quartz. And it is Quartz !

And in my previous comment I ommitted these words. (other brands)

    it should have said ...

The price point from other brands was the dealbreaker.

The fact that Dupont sells full and half slabs on this particular product saved us quite a bit of money.

There are many great Quartz brands out there ,we looked at several, but bottom line I think everyone wants

the best price especially when you a dealing in the thousands. We were fortunate that our layout worked in that instance.

Anyway it’s a beautiful product -London Sky.

I posted my last message only to make sure people knew it was still made by the same DUPONT company and it didn't change hands. I agree, London Sky is one of my favorites!!!!

Hi I just thought I would some pics of the finished kitchen with London Sky done 2019.

The veining is evident but I don’t find it busy.

@Laurie Skoroda love your kitchen. Would you mind sharing your backsplash and hardware selections?

    Hi ! Thank you.

    knobs/pulls are from topknobs.com

    knob-mushroom 1 1/4” brushed nickel

    pull- somerset brushed nickel

large drawer pulls from Home Depot 12” stainless

    cant Remember name

If you are you referring to brick it’s actually the fireplace we uncovered in our 1810 house. ( and a letter )

There is a small backsplash made out of London Sky at the base about 1/2 “thick at the top of the cooktop.

I also had them fabricate a piece to cover my griddle on the cooktop, invaluable space !

    Take care !

    What color are your cabinets?

Ben Moore Snowfall White and trim is the same

We have White Dove in the rest of the house but it showed up pink in here - this is a west facing room. Glad I tried several colors!

The cabinet maker sprayed them in that color but in a conversion varnish.

    Brand is Becker Acroma.

Super smooth with a furniture finish

20 percent sheen which is less than a satin finish.

My trim is oil Ben Moore in satin.

So they were sprayed in snowfall white in a conversion varnish formula.

Has anyone been able to confirm if London Sky has gone back to the original veining? Was about to decide on LS but then saw some posts about the slabs not looking anything like the samples.

I’d love to know if they changed the slabs also! Heard same about this particular quartz-London sky

So I just called Corian and spoke with customer service. They said that everything as far as tone of background and colors of veining have remained the same. The veining was a more directional pattern for awhile but any slab that is made after 2019 will have more of the random veining in it. He said “ the veining issue was corrected”. Not sure if people were calling in and complaining, wanting old, random veining pattern back. Whatever the reason, the more random pattern will be in slabs made after the year 2019!! YAY!!

It was beautiful before...it'll be even more beautiful now! Thanks for the info. I have an older version display island in my showroom.

How do I reply!?🤷🏻‍♀️ theresa21 I’m so sorry I JUST saw your question. I will go get details and post here. Sooo sorry!

    Ok, my backsplash.

I did half clear, half matte. The most important part is a good installer, because prep is key. Need to read about this time in Houzz and make sure they know what they’re doing. Ours did and it’s perfect!

For our Hardware. By Atlas. I used a mix of Channing Pull Cups and Bradbury Pulls. I used matte black on the white cabinets and brass in the dark oak island.

Here’s the brass on the oak. This pic has been shared frequently by our kitchen designer. She loved our choices!

Anyone else have pictures of their London SKy installed???? I am checking out a full slab in a few days.

@Amy Amer I love your kitchen with the London Sky quartz. How can I find the best pricing on some quartz if my kitchen is small and there is no island? You mentioned a half slab of quartz, would that be something useful when only doing countertops since they are rather narrow? We need something installed soon, in the Chicagoland suburbs. Thank you for any advice.
