Let's start with the Advantium. I'm a huge fan of the GE Advantium speed cook units. Both the built in GE Profile and GE Monogram units do exactly what they are supposed to do. Not all convection microwaves are built the same way. GE revolutionized this type of unit and still are the leaders. GE has a halogen light on the interior which actually browns food, unlike some of the others on the market.

Convection microwaves will not replace a true wall oven but they cover the bases for microwaving, warming and secondary cooking. They replace toaster ovens. I find that people use the convection features for large family dinners when there are all those extra casserole dishes to prepare.

One thing that you need to remember is that they are not self cleaning. You can cook a steak in them. It will brown the exterior, be blood red on the interior (based on cook time) and be something you'd want to eat. The downfall is how much it splatters...you won't do it twice!


Let's touch on European dishwashers. All European dishwashers rely on a drying system called condensation dry. Condensation dry blasts the dishes in hot water at the end of the wash cycle and cools the stainless steel. The idea is that the water condenses to the stainless and runs to the bottom of the dishwasher. Plastics will not condense so all plastics will be wet coming out of the dishwasher. In addition, there is a stainless steel roof on all of these units so water will condense there as well and when the dishwasher cools the water will rain down on the dishes. Some European dishwashers have an additional heated fan assist that comes on after the condensation dry which improves the drying.

European dishwashers (and some of the extra quiet US made ones) have five stage filtration systems in them instead of food grinders. That's what makes them quieter! The drawback is that that filter needs to be manually cleaned out.

That being said I personally owned a European dishwasher and had no issues with cleaning out the trap or letting the dishes air dry overnight, but you need to adjust your expectations.


Whirlpool now owns JennAir, KitchenAid, Maytag, Whirlpool and Amana. While it used to be true that Kenmore was all Whirlpool product that changed awhile back. Sears hit some financial trouble and put each piece on the chopping block for the lowest bidder. You will now find LG, Samsung, Whirlpool and GE all under the Kenmore lineup!

I do have a tendency to avoid the LG's and Samsung's of the world because they are manufactured in Korea. It can take two to three weeks to get a part out here in the middle of the country! We are family owned and operated, I just don't need that kind of heartache.
