For those of you that have read The Girl on the Train

Not sure if you have heard they are currently filming a movie based on this novel. I found it to be an interesting read but not the best read.

They have chosen Emily Blunt to play the main character (Rachel). I have seen photos of her while they were shooting the film.

Do you ever have a hard time figuring out how they choose people for these roles? She is in my opinion, quite beautiful.... even after gaining weight for the role she still does not resonate as the main character in my mind. Here is a link to the movie.

One thing I will say is that I adore Justin Theroux who he is playing Tom. I think that was a great choice of actor for that character. I know I will watch it when it comes to DVD. I am always curious as to how things look on film vs. the book. Would you go and see it?

I, too, will wait til it comes out on Netflix or DVD. Mostly because we rarely go to the movie theater for any movie.

I liked the storyline but agree that the book itself was not as great a read as I was expecting.

I'll watch it when it comes out on DVD or on pay-per-view. It was a good book, but not great. I do wonder often how people are chosen for their roles. These could be good choices. Will have to reserve judgment, especially on Emily Blunt, as she could really do something with this character.

I liked the book and it did manage to surprise me (of course, I'm pretty gullible). The author stated she wasn't shocked they cast a beautiful woman as the (overweight, bloated, drunken) protagonist. I think they will likely do a good job of making Emily Blunt look haggard. Honestly I'd have preferred the setting to stay Britain as to me, a lot of the suspense of the plot rested on quintessentially British characteristics (not making a scene, being polite, etc).

Here is the worst pic I could find of her during filming.

Blech. I just joined a new book group and this was the first read - such a disappointment on many levels. I sure wouldn't waste time or money going to see it at the theater. Netflix, maybe - only to see what they do with it.

I liked it as an entertaining read--kept my interest while I was home sick and had time to read stuff that wasn't for work. I thought it was interesting that the narrator was a woman with an alcohol problem. In all the jillions of books that I've read, I don't think a drunken woman has been a main character in any of them.

I probably won't see the movie in theaters because I usually don't like the movie versions of books I've read. But if DDs want to go, I would go along with them, or I would watch it on Netflix just to see how they made it work.

I do find casting decisions in general to be so interesting. I really like the casting on Mozart in the Jungle, for example, and I feel it contributes a lot to the show's joie de vivre.

Funny, I just finished the book last night and did not like it all that much. It just went on too long. In fact, I finally skipped to the end to see who did it. I certainly did not picture anyone remotely like Emily Blunt when I pictured Rachel. She looks more the way I pictured Anna.

LOVE Mozart in the Jungle, at least so far. Yes, the casting seems perfect but I did not go into it having read a book first, so I had no preconceived ideas about how the characters should look.

I hadn't read the book for Mozart in the Jungle, either. So the casting could be totally "off" for the books, but it's delightful for me.

I don't have a problem with Emily Blunt being cast as Rachel, but they moved it from England to the US???!!

My disappointment with the book was the ending...I wonder if they're going to change it for the movie....

I liked the book, but I listened to it on my commute and I think in this case it made the book even better as they had different voices for the different characters and they were all British. I had also just returned back to the US from a visit to England and having travelled on several of the commuter trains. However I doubt I'll see the movie unless it is on TV or my DH buys it on DVD as I usually don't like the movies after reading the book.
