We live in a 1960's ranch-style home in California's central coast area. We recently had to take down a large mulberry tree that provided a shaded retreat on our south-facing deck when we opted to go solar. Now we need to build a structure to provide shade for our deck that will also provide a space for outdoor dining and entertaining. The problem: we have a completely hipped roof, so the roofline is quite low. How can we recover our lost shade while still maintaining the roofline? Any suggestions?
