Has Anyone Here Purchased or Used One of the New GE Top Loaders?

My wife and I will need to replace our washer and dryer set in the near future. My wife is adamant she wants a traditional top loader with an agitator. I am not as fond of traditional top loaders as our Asko front loader, but use one often enough to know I can live with one. The words of wisdom commonly stated here is if one is going to buy a traditional top loader then buy a Speed Queen. (Here in Canada they are sold as Huebsch washers.) But I like to consider other possible options. I am also concerned by the fact that the number of retailers in my area that regularly sell Speed Queen/Huebsch washers and dryers is dwindling.

Recently GE started producing a new line of top loaders that mixes a traditional design with energy- and water-saving features of modern HE machines. The model I am specifically looking at is the GE GTW485ASJWS top load washer. This review at Reviewed.com is pretty favourable for this type of washer. I am just curious if anyone owns one, uses one, or knows anyone who does. What do you/they think of the machines?

I don't think you get true hot wash with these ...I could be wrong but I think hot is actually warm. I don't know much about them but I would suggest if you want traditional top load stick with Speed Queen.

Go to Automatic Washer.org. Someone there recently got one. Already a problem and they are sending it back. I think (not sure) there are also some videos there. I saw vids somewhere and it is a loud washer when washing. You will have to return to push the add water button until you get a full tub. It adds 6 gals when you push it, then for more another push the way I understand it. I would either go with a SQ or another FLor a different HE top load before this one. I believe the GE HE top load washer is much better than the one you are considering from what I have read. You Tube may have videos also.

The situation mentioned above is that the machine blew its controller board on the 3rd load and the part is backordered 2+ months.

I think the wife wants a standard actually she is adamant about it so in this case I sure wouldn't recommend a TL...HE

DaDoes I thought someone there said that they didn't like that washer. Maybe it was someone else just commenting on the videos? Said it didn't clean or fill up like it should. Am I right about that or not?

GE appliances was sold to Haier in China. No idea what that would mean re service but I wouldn't go with any GE product these days.
