Does this color matches the furniture style I want? Can you tell me what you think?. THANKS!

Hi, we just bought our first house and we are trying to figure out what color to paint the kitchen and the family room. We'd like to buy a rustic reclaimed wood dining table ( 2 example pictures), and these lamps will be hanging over the table, we think they look cool. We wanted a happy/bright color for the kitchen that's why we chose that greenish yellow next to the window (Sesame from Benjamin Moore http://www.benjaminmoore.com/en-us/paint-color/sesame#ce_s=sesame (note: it's not as bright as in the picture).
My question is: the furniture style and the lamps go with the color or should I use a more neutral color for the walls?
Just for you to know we can't change the floor right now and those red curtains will disappear.
For the family room we are going to go with a gray tone http://www.benjaminmoore.com/en-us/paint-color/moonshine

Any suggestions?

I would say either Bay Laurel or Spanish Moss.

I agree, that color is all wrong with your cute style that you want. Go for a warmer color.

i like the green you chose very much. It looks different on the color sample for sure! It is a nice neutral- goes with grays and browns. Go for it!

Your furniture and lights are rustic , and lime green does not compliment the theme you are aiming for.

Will you have a rug under the table or window treatments on the windows? If you have one or both of those already, you may find a great color from them. I love the color that you have, but I'm not sure it's going to bring everything together. From the picture, it appears to cool and too light. Like the others have mentioned, warming the color up may work. What about a nice, warm, soft golden yellow?

tdmiss: thanks for your help. We are not planning to have a rug because our kids will ruin it. I think the color we chose looks really bright in my picture.
This is where we took it from http://www.younghouselove.com/photo-gallery-2/our-current-house/
look at the kitchen, of course they have a more modern overall style.

This is where we got the idea for the color (look for the kitchen) but they are not choosing a rustic furniture.

I am a fan of green but not in kitchens or bathrooms. It can affect the tint of what you are viewing and green on you non-green food is never good. I also don't think this goes with the floor at all. It's very contemporary compared to the more rustic vibe that you appear to like.

Check out Sesame from Sherwin Williams. It would look amazing with your white woodwork and cabinetry, as well as the flooring and table. It would transition well into the gray in the living room area. Your light fixture is right on the money for design and balance.

With those red floors, you are going to have one HECK of a time finding a "green" that works well in that space. The blue-red is going to be a massive distraction while you work on the look you want. With a floor that colour, and cabinetry that does not work with the floor, you may have find a happy compromise until you have the finances to change ONE of the two (cabs or floor).

One thing that would "do" for your taste, would be an old, blue-ish wooden table (not so brown as the one's you are showing) that looks like it had some form of "Greek Blue" on it at some time in it's life. This would allow the floor to "tone down" a bit. I would then mimic a VERY SUBTLE blue/gray on the walls to help pull the look off.

All of this would be IN PREPARATION for a new floor - distressed hardwood I'm guessing - that would be installed later. Once the floor is "out" you can then strip down the "old blue" table to something more rustic and then add the green to the walls.

Here is a great table/benches as an example:

I think that shade of green does not go with your space or furniture choices.

I would go with a lighter more muted green.

However, I don't like green for a kitchen normally. There are some occasion where I think it does well as an accent color but not the dominant color.

Cancork Floor Inc, thank you, yeah that red floor is driving us nuts trying to find something to match, I think the table you sent is a great solution, probably adding a rug may be an extra help to mute the floor a bit.

I wouldn't do a rug with kids. It's asking for it to be quickly ruined. And it's nearly impossible to keep clean.

That is such a beautiful rich red floor. You need to find a color that will flow with it, not go against it.

I prefer the green on the left-hand side that desparza2010 posted. It goes better with the style you want to create. Also, go with the harvest table and don't match the chairs too much. Some tufted chairs at either end will add some texture. Even with kids a sisal rug would be fine and would hide that floor.....sorry I really don't like that colour.....hopefully you'll be able to change it soon to fit in with the style you want. Check out www.elmueble.com for some inspiration.

I suggest a very soft beige, such as Gray mist (it is actually beige despite the name). It will complement the red floor and be in keeping with the rustic style of the furmiture that you want to have. I have attached a picture, which shows the Gray mist paint with a reddish stain armoire (please look past the mismatched furniture, we are in the midst of a kitchen redo also...)

I like the colour Sesame, but not for this space. The green in it compliments the floor thus making it look even more red. Glad the red curtains will go.

Moonshine also has green undertones so if the red floors continue to the family room, that may not be the best choice.

Have you thought about a deep grey? That could look a little more industrial to go along with the light fixture and table (both gorgeous choices!). Here are a few you can try next to your finishes and fabrics -
    (Also Benjamin Moore)
    Silver Streak - 2119-40
    Asphalt - CC-548
    Overcoat - CC-544

Then put some large brushed nickel handles on the cabinets and perhaps some Cararra Marble for a backsplash in a herringbone pattern with a 3" x 6" tile. (just on the full wall that the stove is on)

Good luck and post after shots!

Who says you can't break the rules? I happen to love that you are looking at mixing things up and adding the rustic pieces to a pretty contemporary space. As long as you don't go 50/50 it serves to add interest and can create a fabulous look.

Toronto designers, great I'll check those colors out. We are going with moonshine from ben moore for the family room. Probably we are gonna go with a neutral beige in the kitchen, do you think it's going to be too gray if I use gray in both rooms? even if it is a different shade? thanks!

    Fernando Poblete,

    Correction $200.

It was made by a man who makes picnic tables and benches in Tampa.

My mom found him at his booth at a flea market in Seminole [Tampa] Florida.

I like the green, but may go with something a bit darker so that the cabinets "pop". Love the lime greens with grey! It is hard to know exactly what shade the paint is via computer.

Can't believe what some people are saying, your flours are beautiful. I think the green will look very fresh and young and lighten up your mornings. Throw in some more bright colors like bright blue, fushia in accessories and this will make you very happy!

Why wouldn't you go with the same colour in family room and kitchen? I would tie them together... how are they connected?

Hi Toronto Designers: this is how they connect, for now we are thinking to go with grays for the kitchen and this room, and probably an accent on the wall where the speaker is. Possibilities? Green : http://www.shopping.com/valspar-8-oz-paint/0kcROWvnXXIDBMOtKSXHYA==/info?sb=1 (the reall paint doesn't look so bright) or beige. Thoughts?

    thanks

Steel blue paint. It will compliment the stainless steel, it is neutral for the woods, and use vases, flowers, towels, placemats to add bolder/bright accent colors..lie..yellows or reds.

The wooden floor is SO red!!!! If you want have the wall green and the table with bench that have a light wood ton, I will replace the wooden floor to take of the dark red ton and replace it with a more modern look and lighter finish...and keep away from the red ton. The other option is to paint the walls a nice tan color, not too light so you will have some contrast with the white kitchen cabinets. You can have a lighter tan elsewhere and maybe an accent wall in the LR. The table with the bench and light will be perfect in the kitchen on the dark floor and now flooring will kind of ton down the space by a more neutral color if you use a tan. There is other way to bring colors: accent walls, upholstery furniture, accent pillows, area rugs and window treatment. See my first pic showing a nice selected beige and one wall accent to add the blue in this specific interior. 2nd pic is a good idea for you if you want change your red floor.

First of all I love the first of the two rustic tables the Best to keep up with The Old Rustic feel. Good choice. The yellow (as I see it) is bright and trust as I say this it will bother your eyes down the road I inhererated my sister's all yellow room. Oh!! I would go with a nice buttercup yellow and pop bright color into the space ( like toaster, Mixer, Salt and Pepper Shakers). These can be replaced easily and add alot to bring some fun as well. This way you don't have to keep repainting all the time.
I am no fashion designer so I hope this helps. God Bless! Love and Laughter , Justina
