Black windows, wood returns -- should I repeat black elsewhere?

We're building a modern home with windows that are black both inside/outside. The window returns will be wood extension jambs. Very similar to this:

The builder thinks we should repeat the black element somewhere else in the home. Do you agree? If so, where would you do black?

Elsewhere in the home I have walnut floors, nickel fixtures/hardware. Slate appliances. Black electric cooktop. Probably black/gray tile in the bathrooms. The cabinetry, doors, and trim will most likely be this shade of alder (middle sample!)...

plus this kitchen counter...

Picture frames would probably do it. Or if you are doing a railing anywhere, do it in straight lines and do it in black.

I agree with Jann. I like touches of black to unify spaces no matter what the style of decor. But, I don't think it needs to be "built-in". As Jn says...picture frames, accessories, etc.

where else is he suggesting you use black?

He suggested black crown moulding in the kitchen, or a black "light shield" under the cabinets. Neither is my cup of tea. I actually have dozens of oversized black picture frames (thank you IKEA Ribba) from my previous house. And some jet black furniture (thank you husband's bachelor pad). Thanks for validating my gut instincts! :D

Did he go to architectural school or design school? If not, just ignore him. He's a builder and not a designer. (Sorry didn't mean it to sound snarky.)

I think that you have plenty of black elements in your design. No more needed! :)

I agree completely with cpartist (and I like snarky, lol)

We just built a modern home and have black trimmed windows. We do have the black repeated in a few elements...black stair rails, some black light fixtures and black door hardware. But I agree that you shouldn't force it with the things he is suggesting and it sounds like you already have enough elements.

That reminds me...I'm doing this for my stair rail. So there's some black. ;)

I wonder if, as a builder, he sees the house unfurnished for such a long period of time he forgets that it's going to be filled with furniture that will tie it all together.

Looks wonderful as it is. I trust the stone didn't fall on the beautiful child.

LOL! He insisted on posing with each rock that I took a picture of. I swear he wasn't actually climbing it, but this picture certainly makes it look like it! :)
