You want to put either wood or tile everywhere in the house?

If you live in the tropics, then tile might be ok; otherwise wood is probably preferable. can't really be answered in the abstract.

If you're looking to sell in 10 yrs and entertain a lot of people and grandchildren I would go with a tile product. Over time traffic, wear and tear, scratches will occur on your nice wood floor. Refinishing (if applicable) can be costly over a large area. A commercial strength tile will hold up better in the long run.

It depends on your climate and how you use your house. Tiles can be cold and hard on the feet. Wood can get scratched if you are near the beach. Neither is better than the other; it depends on lots of factors.
