Have you shopped any consignment stores? DR's don't seem to be as popular as they once were, and DR furniture seems to be in abundance, especially if its even remotely on the formal side. 'Pottery Barn style', or what is known as transitional, is more pupular these days. Many antique stores are surprising not not only carrying fine antiques, but 'newer' vintage furniture. I purchased a beautiful French style, parquet top table for $135 and it has 2 pull out leaves. Shop around and don't feel you need to be locked into purchasing new.

Your furniture doesn't have to match, although you like to match. Do you have photos of what inspires you, or, of your existing furniture? It would be good to know your taste before making suggestions.

Since you mentioned Baker, do you want contemporary?

dyhgarden, I like contemporary and I guess what some sites call transitional. My current furniture is washed ash. Which is why I want to change it to a darker wood. Maybe an espresso color, dark walnut or a deep cherry finish. I'm not sure how to post pics. If I figure it out I'll post some pics of dinning room styles that I like.

I'd honestly look at used in antique places, used furniture shops and Craigslist. Lots of folks are downsizing and you can get some great values. I have seen every style imaginable. Used is a way to get good value, good quality if you know what you are looking for.

You won't find anything better quality in the mid range than Thomasville of2 4 years ago... Color is "outdated"?? refinish it.....add a gel stain...and re-do the chairs....you will be lots of $$ ahead!
