Just trying to get a sense how many people use Roundup

I've been maintaining lawns for the past 12 years. I think I've used Roundup twice in my life. I was just wondering if anyone could share in what situations would you use Roundup or Glyphosate.

Thanks

I use it all the time:

    • To kill grass/weeds poking through mulched areas.
    • To kill weeds in my garden.
    • To kill little trees that germinate from seed in mulch rings around trees.
    • To kill weeds before overseeding/renovation.
    • To kill grass that germinates in mulch beds from seed that gets thrown in there during overseeding.
    • Throughout the year to kill weeds that grow in the spaces between cement slabs in my driveway and other areas.

I use about 1 gallon of solution a year, I have a bottle of concentrate which will last me 5-6 years at the current rate.

O The kill EVERYTHING !!! even DOGS, keep your pets inside and walk them away from the area. I told my mother not let the dog out, she thought nothing of it, it cant be bad, well let me tell you something 5 minutes of running almost killed the spaniel, it absorbs thru the pads on there feet, she was very lucky, it cost her only $ 2,300.00 vet bill. FAIR WARNING !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, it says right on the label:

"DOMESTIC ANIMALS: This product is considered to be relatively nontoxic to dogs and other domestic animals; however, ingestion of this product or large amounts of freshly sprayed vegetation may result in temporary gastrointestinal irritation (vomiting, diarrhea, colic, etc.). If such symptoms are observed, provide the animal with plenty of fluids to prevent dehydration. Call a veterinarian if symptoms persist for more than 24 hours."

Once RoundUp dries, it's harmless.. Just keep the pets away until it dries.

I use RoundUp to take out certain weeds in my lawn for which there isn't a selective control. For example, Orchardgrass. A bag of fescue was contaminated with the stuff, and I've got Orchardgrass all over the place.

The Ready-To-Spray pump I bought has a foam option on the squirt gun attachment that came with it. The foam makes it easier to control because there isn't much risk of collateral damage. Because the Orchardgrass grows about twice as quick and twice as tall as TTTF, it's pretty easy to manage.

Sadly, there so much orchardgrass in my backyard that I'm starting to feel the need to spray the entire yard with RU this summer to kill it all, and then do a total rennovation.

I use a drip here and a drab there, to kill weeds in the brickwork and gardens. Summertime is a mix of two herbicides--Round Up and Tenacity, as the Tenacity is the only thing that'll take out the nutsedge and wild allium. I also use Round Up to kill the grass that tries, every single year, to invade the gardens as if they were the beaches of Normandy.

I'd tentatively say I go through 3/4 gallon of RU per year, but it varies widely by the season. Wet years, more. Very dry years, much less.

    MSMA works against nutsedge :-)

About a gallon spot sprayed once a year. Using other products for Crabgrass & nutsedge, so less now.

Its good advice to follow warning labels and directions on all products not just Roundup. These are chemicals and can be used incorrectly.I keep pets and humans off for days afterwards using any product including granules not just spray. Also let stuff get rained or watered in as needed. I do the back then wait to do the front a week+ later (depending on warning labels, maybe more) so the dog has some place to go.

Not doing so is just like incorrect use of a motor vehicle (or any product really).
