Thank you for your question. We used structural insulating panels as they provide a complete wall system that could be placed on the outside of the timber framework. The interior walls are finished in stucco, with board and batten siding on the exterior. For the roof, interior ceiling boards serve as roof sheathing, were placed atop the timbers before applying the insulating panels and standing seam metal roof. Special attention had to be paid to the eave detail. Here we had to resolve between the thicker panels required at the roof with the thinner eave desired to reflect the original barn detail. Thinner insulating panels were therefore used at the eaves along with salvaged exposed rafter tails and sheathing boards. The heating source is a conventional gas-fired boiler connected to a hydro-air system. In addition, the conservatory has a radiant floor.
