Because the forum isn't working properly for me today-reply to Kitasei

So, with that out of the way-I've lost my ability to reply to posts within threads I've already been participating in.

Kitasei, I didn't intend to leave you thinking that ostrich ferns need sun to last the summer. I was merely pointing out some of my favorite fern groves which happen to be in full sun but also, in very wet conditions.

No, what I was saying is that ostrich fern will go dormant if the summer turns too dry. Surely won't hurt these plants-I don't believe you can kill them-but they will give up the ghost for the remainder of that season. Not a big deal in my world-just something to be aware of.

Plenty of other suitable ferns too. Cinnamon fern is an outstanding (and prehistoric) plant. Royal fern gets some height, which from my reading of your situation might be helpful. Interrupted fern is another good one. Plenty more.
