Kitchen Appliance Recommendations

last modified: 9 years ago

Hello -

We are remodeling our kitchen and looking for advice on appliances. We are looking for stainless steel in the mid-price range. Based on other reviews, I'm not looking for a brand package, but individual. We need:

  1. Counter-Depth French Door Fridge

  2. Dishwasher (leaning Bosch)

  3. 30" Gas Oven (preferably 5 burners)

  4. Wall Oven

  5. Microwave (should we buy combo wall oven - microwave or buy separate?)

    1. Beverage Fridge

Would love any opinions anyone has on brands.

THANKS!

Where will your microwave go? Under counter? Counter? Built-In? Drawer?

I would recommend our KA Architect series FD CD fridge. Do you want a water dispenser inside or out?

    Bosch DW has been excellent.

microwave would go above the wall oven. We are ok with water dispenser inside or out.

I'd recommend doing a little research into inside and outside water/water&ice and inside. IIRC, there's been some discussion about the outside dispensers being a weak link (repairs), moreover, taking up valuable space inside of a CD fridge.

Here is what I have and could recommend:

    Bosch DW

KA Architect II Series French door refrigerator

    Bluestar range top

    Vent-A-Hood exhaust

    Thermador wall oven

All microwaves are made by Sharp

    Marvel beverage fridge

Another vote for the CD KA Architect Series french door refrigerator. Clean looking with cold inside water and a fast ice maker in the freezer drawer. One word of caution is that the unit is 72" tall at the hinge. I had my upper cabinet modified to accommodate the height. Also love my Bosch 800 series dishwasher. If you end up buying a KA refrigerator and wall oven, be sure both models have the same handle. KA transitioned to a more industrial looking tubular handle in 2015. The trim kit for the KA microwaves is surprisingly affordable. Very happy with the Zephyr island hood.

    Bosch DW or Asko

Bluestar range (we love our 30 inch RNB)

I like the KA counter depth units personally. The KRFC302ESS is a good unit and has ice and water inside. Exterior dispensers are very unreliable so I would avoid them unless you absolutely have to. They cause far more service issues than any other component. If you can find the recently discontinued bosch version its worth while. That would be a B22CT80SNS which they no longer offer but there are some floating around distribution channels for sure. Its the same as the KRFC302 but with the bosch handles (and my match some of my other suggestions)

Bosch DW makes a solid fairly priced machine. If you want no handle look at a SHP53. You can also just get an SHE53TL which is their most popular machine for good reason.

30" ranges depend. You can step up to say a Capital MCR305N (or MCR304 with 4 burners) without spending a ton more than a high end KA or GE range. Remember that 5 burners never equals 5 pots. Basically you can choose if you want to cook 4 things...or 1 thing in the middle. Not both. If you look at others GE and Electrolux offer pretty solid mid line ranges. You can get both between $1500-$2500 for most of their product line.

Wall Ovens I like the bosch units for value. Thermador makes a good one...but that's going to be $4k ish. Bosch makes a combo that is the HBL8751UC. The biggest plus is that the units are joined, but not one piece. If the microwave burns out its entirely separate from the oven. Plus you get some oven functionality out of the microwave portion.

Bev centers...I'm not super high on. If you don't mind your beverages being a little warmer than refrig temperature the monogram ZDBR240 is a decent unit. Otherwise get a marvel which will be a lower temperature but more basic shelving. ML24BCG0 is the base model around $1400

    homechef,

Since all of your appliances are different brands, do they have same type of color, sheen, finish and handles?

    Thank you,

    Mindy
