Shaker has definitely been the "default" door style for a good 10 years now. But that will change eventually. There are lots of other beautiful door styles out there. My recommendation would be to pick something that looks right for your home and that you really like. I would probably avoid doors that are obviously Thermofoil.

If one could find a true raised panel, they can be lovely. Most are not - they're sort of "molded" as that is less costly. To me , they look "common". Shaker, or even a beautiful slab, are timeless.

Suzanne, can you say more about 'molded' looking panels? I'm afraid I can't visualize the difference between one that looks molded and one that doesn't. Thanks

A recessed panel without the squared edges at the center panel. Looks elegant. This is the Concord Door by Showplace Cabinetry. It has a double roundover edge on the inside corner of the recessed panel. It really dresses it up.

Just to give you an idea of some door styles that are out there (although you want the whole package, I guess) here is the page from Barker Doors: http://www.barkerdoor.com/Wood-Cabinet-Doors-s/5.htm

They start with shaker at the top but get more ornate as you go down the page -- notice the Los Angeles, Boise, and Portland doors in particular. I would guess that some version of most of these are available from many cabinet companies.
