I'm back with kitchen drawings! What do you think

Thank you for all your help. Here are the plans that I think are great and am going to finalize. What do you think?

there will be a prep sink in the island that is not on the drawings.

I love the windows flanking the cooktop. That's such a pretty look in my opinion and if my kitchen had been bigger I would have done it in a heartbeat.

Do you have a pantry somewhere? If it's the just the tall cabinet next to the desk I'd sure like to see that bigger if I were you.

I'm also not a big fan of the kitchen desk. I don't think it looks like a particularly attractive place to actually sit. I'd rather do just about anything at the island with a view out the windows rather than sitting at a desk looking at a wall and the side of a cabinet. If it's just a "control center" you need I'd rather have that tucked behind a cabinet door or in a drawer. where you can have easy access but don't have to look at it. In my experiences those kitchen desks end up clutter magnets as opposed to really useful space.

Congrats, your kitchen is going to be beautiful. I love the navy and white two tone.

I agree about the desk. I'd rather see a larger pantry cabinet and skip the desk. Or possibly as mentioned, do one a pantry and the other a hidden desk section. But either way, I'd hinged that tall cab the other way so it's more convenient to the kitchen side.

If you really like the desk, I'd paint it white. That way it connects with the tall white cabinet. To me it looks a little odd being blue because of it being set apart from the rest of the blue base cabinets. It looks kind of lonely separated over there. :-)

What are your dimensions? Just curious because it looks very similar to the kitchen we're designing except I have a fridge and counter where you have the tall cabinet and desk. I love your Windows. We currently have 3 Windows above the sink with no uppers but no windows on the range wall. Debating doing something more like your window set up... I also don't love kitchen desks. Major junk collecting location, imo. I would rather have a little beverage center there.

Lakeerieamber it is 16x20 with a 10 foot island. I originally didn't have windows on the range wall but added them because it was too empty looking.

Rebunky thank you I love navy and white! The desk should be white they made a mistake on the drawings

    bean thank you

    beach thank you

I think I am going to get rid of the desk but it was going to be my landing space and a place for the land phone.

What do you do with your children's calendars?

I'd make sure you have enough space for the freezer (?) to open all the way. You probably cannot push it right up against the wall. It makes more sense to me to put the fridge where the desk is and put a prep sink in the island. The sink window wall looks crowded.

I only have two kids--I think you have quite a crew--and I keep all our family appointments and activities in a google calendar shared with Husband. The kids are presently making and keeping their own little monthly paper calendars (they're 3.5 and almost 7) that they keep in their room.

Good the desk isn't blue. :-)

Do you have the overhead Birdseye view of the layout that you could post?

The one other thing jumping out at me is that one upper cabinet next to the corner glass to the counter upper. I cannot see due to the angle of the drawing what's happening on the other side of the window (sink side). I think another matching upper on the left side would look balanced, but I cannot tell what's happening there.

I think BB has a point about that large fridge freezer unit. It does look to be crowding a bit on that side. But as I said, it might be because the angle is not showing that side.

same here. I do think the 1 lone upper looks very lonely...

I would reduce the island by 1 foot. You'll appreciate the extra space to walk past it and also when standing in front of the tall cabinet.

There is exact spacing around the sink window with the fridge/freezer and the closed upper cabinet. I think it balances it out and very symmetrical the way I like it. Lol

BB there is a prep sink in the island it is just not shown. Would you switch the pantry with the fridge? There is a 4" spacer next to the fridge so the door can open all the way.

Hi desertsteph hope all is well.

When you say exact spacing, I hope you have taken any trim around the windows into account in calculating the size of the hood and vice versa. I am with those who don't like that desk. The real problem with it is that it is not wide enough for your elbows, so you won't work there much and it's just going to become a landing area for paper. If you really want a landing area in the kitchen, why not just put the desk in a closet so that you can shut the door on it and don't have to look at it or put in the pantry is suggested above.

Yes, I would swap the fridge and pantry. You would then need to move the microwave to be closer to the fridge.

I think you require seating for 5 at the island. Have you considered curving the seating side of the island so the kids can kind of see each other's faces while they sit there?

BB great idea about curving the island I'll ask to see a rendering of that. I am also going to have her swap the pantry and fridge. Thanks again for all your input.

Practigal we did take in account for the moldings. Everyone is correct I am getting rid of the desk.

I will put a landing zone in my mud room.

Or, you can mount metal sheets on the inside of the pantry for your stuff!
