Each brand has its fans. Miele is generally favored here on GW but a lot depends on configuration.

I bought an Asko at the end of January. I think model D5654something SHI which has the pocket handle. It cleans well (household has two adults so no idea re sippy cups and such.) It's louder than the 39db Bosch that I got at New Years but since it leaked the very first time I ran it and still no replacement a month later, my memory has been clouded by that. I like being able run a half load in either top or bottom rack. Also the air dry fan dries well except for really concave dishes/glasses. The SS front doesn't show fingerprints yay!

We've had an Asko for nearly two years now. Can't remember the model but one of the top-of-the line models with the three racks so that silverware lies flat rather than being put vertical in a basket. We've been very happy. Dishes are sparking clean compared to our old Kitchenaid. We love the versatility of the size and how many dishes it can hold. In your shoes, I might take your dishes to the dealers and try to figure out which manufacturer has a machine that best accommodates your size dishes. It is true that different dishwasher configurations will work better for some people's belongings than others.

My only niggling complaint is that the lack of a heated dry cycle means if I have a lot of plastic items (like when the grandkids come over and I get out all of the little plastic bowls and cups) they will not be dry when you open the door. China and glasses are dry but not these items. This is not a big deal to me but thought I'd mention it.

I have had the Miele Lumen for 8 months. It cleans everything I have thrown at/in it. It is extremely quiet - my DH keeps trying to open the door mid cycle cause he doesn't notice the red light on top :-). It has the open door drying feature and everything is dry except lips on plastic rims and the bottoms of glassware that are concave. It dries my plastics - something my previous 12 1/2 year Kitchen Aid did not do well. I had a mid range Bosch for the last year+ in a rental and it cleaned and dried extremely well. No complaints there. The fit and finish of the Miele feels more sturdy, and I love how the racks adjust easily to accommodate large pots/pans. I am not shy to put my stainless cookware in the DW these days and have starting doing minimal rinsing. Baked on egg/cheese/etc does not phase it. The china cycle has washed many stems of non cut crystal successfully. The only items that it did not clean were items stacked where the water would not reach it. My bad.
