I'm back! Need to make some final decisions. Expert Advice Needed!

Our plans for our kitchen update are moving right along and we are just about ready to start.

My husband would LOVE a wine fridge. The only space we have (well, it's the only "easy", least invasive space) is in the wet bar. We would remove the sink and base cabinet and install it there (far right lower). Problem is - we have to lose the counter.

We are painting all the perimeter cabs Simply White and keeping the perimeter countertops (Volga Blue, reads black).

We are paining the island Ebony (not true black - but not dark gray). We are replacing the island top with a light quartz, yet to be chosen.

If we do the wine fridge, we will have to replace the counter. Can't buy a whole slab of Volga Blue granite for just a small counter…. So, we are thinking of matching the island and the bar area. The bar area will have a bluish/gray subway tile backsplash.

(I have a kitchen post that is very photo heavy with a more detailed description of the space, if you are interested)

Here are a couple photos:

Should the bar area match the rest of the perimeter, or is it ok to match it to the island?

Missy - are all of your cabinets simply white?

I hadn't even thought about the keeping the bar cabinets white and changing the counter to match the island.

    Yet another choice!

All perimeter cabinets are simply white. My island will be stained oak. With the black top. However there will be an island table that is attached next to it that will have the white quartzite. I have pieces saved at the stone yard that are what I used in the kitchen so do not want to deviate. I originally wanted soapstone but not to be found here in my price range and when I found the quartzite, I could see my kitchen needed to be light countertops but I wanted the bulletproofness of the granite. Plus they didn't have enough quartzite for the whole kitchen. So I have a mix. Its all good. I would post photos but the computer isn't cooperating.

Can you use the island top you are replacing for the wet bar? Or are you repurposing it elsewhere?

I think that your kitchen is beautiful as it is, but if you are remodeling it, I would match the wet bar area to the outer perimeter cabinets. Maybe you can find an end piece of your granite or order it online, etc. Good luck with your project. I love cherry cabinets, and would never paint them, there is a lot of upkeep, etc with painted cabinets that you don't have with stained cabinets

Missy - would love to see photos at some point. Your kitchen sounds beautiful! I hear you on the soapstone.

I can't use the island top for the wet bar, unless I want a seam. Wish I could use it elsewhere. :(

K Sissy - I got a lot of comments such as yours when I first posted questions back in December. Lots of reasons for the change, which I won't get into here.

I've made a few calls on my granite to see if I can find a remnant. It's not a very popular granite, so I'd have to purchase a slab, which is ridiculous.

The other option is to just leave it be - and forget the wine fridge. But my husband would really like to have one. I could go either way.

You couldn't switch one of the lower cabinets for the fridge and leave the sink? What's the middle cabinet (without pull in your wet bar) or how about in the island?

Are you limited to a 24" wide fridge to use in place of the the sink cabinet? I would keep the sink for sure if possible. Are the other cabs to the side narrower? Could you look for a narrow wine fridge?

Seam might not be bad if done well.

The cab to the left of the sink (lower) is a double cabinet. I'd have to have a cabinet made if I were to place the fridge in the center or far left. Not that it can't be done - I just need to draw a line with regard to budget.

    (It doesn't have a pull b/c I'm experimenting with pulls! - I didn't notice when I took the photo)

Island isn't going to work, unfortunately. not enough clearance, for starters - and the cabinets are too large. Again, would have to be modified.

Funny, but we have only used that bar sink about 6 times in 10 years. No kidding. I usually have a large piece of floor tile covering it (18x18) but took it off for the photos. That's why we thought we would be good with putting the fridge there.
