Google vs Google Chrome

I have Google, they ask me to update to Google Chrome...is there any reason I should not do that? I keep being told my browser needs updating...

I don't know what you mean by "I have Google." I use Chrome as my default browser, and like it. I think it updates automatically. I know it does automatic updates of Flash.

Google is a search engine. Google Chrome is a browser. What browser are you using at present?

Right they are 2 different things, Google is a search engine that never needs updating. Chrome is a browser by Google and it does need updating but cancan be set up to update automatically. Chrome would bebe the same as Internet Explorer or Firefox they are all browsers which you use to take you to the Internet and the various websites you visit.

So what exactly is the language and phrasing of the message you are getting? You said you have Google, you might use Google to do searches since it's only a search engine not something you would have. In your statement who is They?

Good to see I'm not the only nightowl around here. ☺

Pekemom, Chrome is a great browser depending on which operating system (WinXP, WinVista, etc) you are running. Please read this November 10, 2015 article from The Google Chrome Team. https://chrome.googleblog.com/2015/11/updates-to-chrome-platform-support.html

It never hurts to add it as a backup to your existing browser.

Mozilla FireFox is a pretty good browser. That's the one I use most of the time and I have it set to notify me when an update is available rather than automatic updates.

I had too many problems with Chrome when I tried to use it. I now use the "new" version of Opera and for Chrome users it'll look very much the same since it's based on the same Chromium engine Chrome is. Much more stable, faster and has more features that I like. It updates itself automatically. I still miss the Presto engine versions of Opera but they gave it up because it was so much work to adapt to the newer desires. I still keep version 12 around for some of its features.
