Just because you have ceilings that are 20' high, does not mean that you need to decorate the entire wall. Your décor needs to be at eye level, anything over 6' is lost to the eye. IMO, the TV is already too high so keep things lower.

You need an end table between the 2 sofas with a lamp, a floor lamp and art.

Hanging a chandelier lower in the room will help make the space cozy and give it better proportions. That also goes for the wall sconces and tv.

If ever I saw a room begging for a large tapestry, this is it. As the room is quite big, and you already have the little balcony up there, the tapestry could extend above the arched door.

I said #1 Yes if you put the mirror by the chair you don't want it higher than the arch. #2 I wouldn't use it behind the couch I think it would give you too much of an altar feel. # 3 I think a tapestry would look good over the sofa if you used the right blend of colors. What about a long mirror or bookcase(s)

The tapestry is nice. All your colors are warm/hot (browns/reds). You need to inject some cool colors (blues/greens/grays) to balance it out.

No mirror and no tapestry. Your furniture is way too casual. And no more brown anything. No bookcases. They usually create their own Design Dilemmas.

Add a large palm or plant in the corner.

Your sofas are heavy looking so get a large painting for the wall.

Add some color from the art with lamps and accents.

I personally don't like a lot of things hanging on the walls. I've thought this over in my head many times. It would be labor intensive only once to use moulding to fill the walls, but this is what I do in my own home. I would probably paint them the same as the wall as I love discreet architectural details, but if the wall was painted very light, I would entertain the thought of painting the moulding white.

You could then, put smaller elements within those spaces like these: Or of course you can place the tapestry within the moulding as well! :)

Well I like the tapestry. I would add some plants though and some cooler colors. Maybe replace the throw pillows with something in that range. Go with what feels the best to you, you live there.

It appears that you are determined to hang a tapestry there. It is not a good idea. You need to add your tables, lamps/floor lamps and then decide on what looks best over the sofa. Add at least one large potted plant to bring some life into the space. Tapestries are for medieval castles not a relaxing space for conversation and TV viewing.

There is a lot of brown in the room. You need artwork and accessories to bring the color which will give the room life. Lighting on tables or floor lamps, soft things such as throws and pillows, plants, sculpture, glass. I would start with art in whichever style you like. Paintings. Okay, a tapestry with color other than dull brown, red, blue, gray. Pick the lightest and brightest colors from the art piece or tapestry and bring your favorite color or two into the room. Select tables that are not just brown. Add a mirror, but be careful to put it in a place that will not get direct or bright sunlight and reflect that light too strongly back into the room. Not a six foot mirror. Art should be at eye level. Post some pictures as you add things.

I love the mirror you chose, you should get it. I like the tapestry too, but there are nicer ones on tapestry sites. With those balconies, take your cues from Romeo and Juliet.

First, I want to say thank you to everyone for their input. This is my first post asking a question, but I have been navigating this site for years.

We built a custom home 3 years ago; unfortunately life circumstances (and not good ones) have taken priority over decorating. However, I am ready now to start making this home "our home"! Without a doubt, I know many rooms are un-finished. The walls are bare, I need floor lighting, lamps, side tables, coffee tables... art work, etc... which is why I have decided to post my question. While I sincerely appreciate everyone taking the time to comment, I get the point with suggestions that are being made, but I am extremely traditional and many ideas just won't work for me. I do not care for "glass" decor and contemporary/modern artwork is not my style. I am not discounting their beauty and I get the idea, but it's not for me. I am not opposed to a tall plant in the far right corner of room bc there is some dead space. I am not keen on the placement of my sconces either but electrician placed them and I should have put more thought into that before I said okay.
I like the idea of chandelier but I can't get past the thought of a chain hanging down 8-10 or more feet before the chandelier hits. I feel the windows and the balconies make a statement of their own, but I know the room definitely needs some finishing touches. I do love when seeing panels/decorative moulding but I don't like it for this particular space. I would rather not start that type of project either if I could help it.

Below is the mirror... they are not the greatest pictures, but I absolutely love it! I have been working with the same designer for a couple years on and off. She will have someone bring the mirror to my home to see if it will work in this room. She seems to think that the top of mirror can go above the arch entrance if I choose to put it by the chair. I don't know that I agree? I do like the tapestry. It is from tapestries ltd., but I agree that the coloring may blend too much and I need a pop of color. I don't agree that tapestries are only for medieval castles as one person had stated. I think that if done right it could work on this wall above the couch.

I will post some other pics of our home once I clean up kitchen from dinner. We have a "keeping room" in kitchen area which is next to this great room. Maybe by posting some other pics you will have a better idea of my style.

You are going about things the right way. Select large pieces of art and rug first, then take room colours from them. Make sure you love the art.

If that's your style and you're going for a tapestry. I say go for a larger one. I think a chandelier would definitely make things flow better but you don't need to have it hang low. Maybe like the picture below?

twincreek, I absolutely LOVE that mirror and I think it will look AWESOME by the chair! Certainly what you just posted there about your style likes and dislikes helps tremendously for us to "feel" your vision.

I would rethink the tapestry opposite the windows. The sunlight may bleach the tapestry . If it will fit, you could place the tapestry on the wall by the chaise. Your room is looking drab because of the color and size of the rug. Place a larger rug in a brighter neutral and white drapes floor to ceiling to emphasize your grand room.

I understand your concern about a chandelier on a 2-story ceiling, but before you nix the idea, maybe google some images or search for some on pinterest. I found one here that looks fabulous! I believe that sometimes when we are searching for certain elements for our homes, we are so focused on that one particular item that we forget that once everything comes together you may no longer "see" that concern as it gets "lost" in the whole design. :)
