Help with exterior color for Cape Cod house
I'm hoping to get some ideas for Benjamin Moore paint colors for our exterior. We're thinking gray, but don't like greenish or brown undertones or greige. The roof is also a gray tone, so I would want to avoid the color being too close to that and having it look like one solid mass from top to bottom, as the trim is very subtle. The trim color would be a softened white like White Dove.
I can't help thinking, though, that we're going too safe with the gray and missing some other option that would look great. I've seen smoky blues and even dark reds on Cape Cods that look great.
I've attached a pic of the house below. The house sits on a wooded lot so it's a very natural setting, but it does get direct sunlight on the house itself. You can't tell from the picture, but the house is on a hill so there is much more outside wall surface in the back than this picture shows for the front. Anyone have any favorites to suggest?

9 years agoA gray would be very nice and quintessential Cape Cod. Paint the shutters black and the poor a nice blue, maybe BM Van Cortland Blue, which is a very Cape Cod blue.
One of my favorite Cape Cod combos is brown with a cream trim or all brown, brown siding, a different brown trim, black door and shutters I see it a lot here (I live on Cape Cod) and it is really beautiful. Plant some hydrangeas in front...really nice.
I didn't do one with brown trim because it would be too hard to do and see here.

9 years agolast modified: 9 years agoWe have BM Briarwood from the Historic Collection with a trim and shutter color that was suggested by BM. I've been wanting to paint the front door a new color and might just do that this spring. I really like what Annie posted.
