I think that's a perfectly charming idea, and true to your style which is evident in your LR. Watch those toasty toes, kids!

Is that brick on parts of the exterior? How about white-washing it and painting the shutters a glossy black? Not sure what the front door looks like, but a matching black or a glossy red could update it. Your living room is charming (as are the kids)!

I like a green (as in the color) roof. Here are some great examples to give you an idea of color choices:

I'm not sure about this dark gray, but the foundation is a light colored rubblestone similar in color to your brick:

This is a stunning example of paint color for a green roof: Notice that the trim is a couple of shades DARKER than the body of the house and also note the DARK green shutters:

White would also work as seen in this example: Think of the natural stain shakes as a stand in for your brick, which I would not paint or white wash.

Thank you thank you! I love interesting trim, too...it seems to be making a comeback... I will also check out the natural stains!!! Great advice! ...and yes- the brick is on the exterior. It's not a bad brick, but I want the house to feel more contiguous or something (maybe even look a little bigger? - not that I care!). The choppiness of the exterior definitely makes the house look way small.

ps- I'm actually very fire-safety aware....I probably took a picture as I was saying "please step away "(notice the looks on their faces ;)
