No clue what will fit (though anxious to hear from others) but we use a king duvet on a queen bed. Much easier to wash the duvet cover weekly and the duvet only seasonally at a lavomatique. Those little Mieles can handle a lot, though.

Larsi would be in the know on that question but I don't think it's a good idea to force any amount of linens into a machine.

I would imagine that would put excessive strain on the machine, does the manual say anything?

Is the comforter Down filled?

I have washed king matelasse duvet cover and king matelasse blanket cover in the Miele. Also queen quilts from PB.

Current one is a poly fill.

Shove it in honey!! The Miele will handle it!!

If it's really big and stuffed in, it might not settle down as it gets wet. Then it'll just turn with the drum instead of tumbling, and won't readily get wet throughout. It'll help if you use a program with high water level, and use the Extended option to increase the wash time.

Took your advice. I'll know how it turned out in 50 min! I used the custom with sanitize+max spin setting.

Custom uses less water. Do you not have a Comforters setting, like W4842 has? If not, do you have a Pillows cycle under MasterCare?

If not, use Wrinkle Free or Normal. Sensitive. Water Plus if you can activate that!

Sanitize is VERY hot for what you are washing. I would never use that high of temp!

I haven't not come across a comforter setting under master care. Won't custom fill it up according to load?

Or pillows setting on the Miele! Intended for bulky stuff and will press out the air. Shoot. Just thought of that.

Didn't realize sanitize is too hot. I thought that's what would be recommended for bedding, towels, etc.

Thanks for the suggestions. What a bummer I didn't find pillows earlier! Doesn't matter, I'll use the pillows setting next time. Now that I know it works, I'll be washing it often. :)

I'm curious as to how well the dryer will work.

Oh, Alex - that video of where I am loading the Duet to full capacity is like a thousand years old. Not even filmed in HD! ;)

Here are some even older ones of my mom's Electrolux, washing a feather-filled comforter. It did indeed kinda work and the item did get agitated - to my sursprise - but a larger machine would have been better.

Alex - as luck would have it, I *just* stumbled on that video last night. I was looking back through vintage GW posts (pre-Houzz) to find my old username. One of my questions from YEARS ago was how full was "too full" in a FL and you kindly responded with that video. Life is cyclical :)

Alex Chicago. Yes...The Pillows cycle on the Little Giant washer is basically the same as Comforters on the W4842. It "deflates" to make room and then saturates and is a marvelous cycle. Brilliant actually for big blankets, comforters and I guess pillows too. LOL ;)

Sounds like Anoop doesn't have the cheat sheet. Pillows is what I use for my quilts and blankets.

Cheat sheet should be packaged by Miele along with the manual. Far more detailed (and accurate) than what is between the bound OEM pages.

Thanks Alex. Yes, Miele should hire me! When I was putting the cheat sheet together I called them several times for comment. Couldn't even get a response. It's about time to do an update on it. When I do I should send it to Dr. Miele directly.

Yesterday, I had to call tech support because I couldn't get the crisper drawer out of my fridge to clean it. Turns out, there's a lock on the drawer that needs to be switched to open. No mention of that in the cleaning section of the manual. I could easily have broken the latch.

DD2 has the same fridge as we do. Her fridge went out. The building came and couldn't get it going. She was about to have ABT come for a service call but she hates them (doesn't everyone). I urged her to call Miele first thing. She couldn't believe she got a live person. The on/off switch was pushed to off by a piece of fruit. No warning about that in the manual. Problem solved in 1 minute.

So I complained to the tech about the manuals in general. He just laughed. He knew. I asked him who does them. He said "someone in Germany."

anoop, the Custom program judges load size by seeing how much water it absorbs from a puddle of water at the bottom of the drum. This works well when clothes are tumbling around in the drum, because they all have a chance to pick up water from the bottom. But in a comforter that's stuffed into the drum, only the outside is directly wetted. The rest of it will get wet only if the wash is long enough. Even if Extended option is used, the machine's Auto Load Control may shorten the wash by some amount (maybe 10 minutes?) because the comforter hasn't absorbed much water during the time allotted to judge load size.

Custom is a program I use for small loads. It has fairly aggressive agitation and low water levels.

The drying was a bit of a pain. I had to keep moving the comforter around manually where the wet areas were towards the outside. I did that about 4 times to get it dry.

I'm happy it worked, so I think I will buy an all cotton comforter next, instead of a blanket.

rococogurl, Because of the size of the load, the drum was only moving slowly in this case (except for the spin cycle). So agitation was pretty low. But I agree, with normal size "unpacked" loads, the agitation level is pretty high with custom mode.

Did this many times before I got my US sized Bosch washer.

I just washed on a cotton 140 degre wash with good results and always with extra water activated. Done it with both down and polyfilled comforters.

When drying I use cotton extra dry normal temp and after thats done I set to about 30-40 min extra on time dry.

As long as you can fit what you want to wash in the miele it can be washed in a miele.

I just bought a couple of Ikea comforters, thanks to someone in Laundry Room mentioning them a little while back. The thing that sealed the deal was that they were marketed as being washable at 140F. Better for me than an expensive comforter that shouldn't be washed, but if you must wash it, here's how, and the down-alternative filling ends up clumped in spite of using the recommended "down fluffers" faithfully during drying. Only used one of the new comforters for a week before going on vacation, but so far so good, and they are pretty well made (washed both of them immediately on receipt). They're dryable on hot according to the words, and on medium according to the symbols. I sometimes sleep with the comforter covering my face, so I need a good hot wash to get it really clean.
