Need Help with Garage Addition

We would like to add a breezeway with a garage on the left side of
this home. Function is important, but curb appeal is a big concern for
us. We've had two suggestions. They are: 1. Repeat what is to the
right of the great room - using the same gambrel roof line with an
indented porch for the breezeway. OR 2. Add a breezeway with a 12/12
pitch and run that into a reverse gable saltbox garage. Any advice
would be appreciated.

Also any other ideas that would improve the curb appeal on our
mountain home are welcomed. Note: We plan to give the porch a facelift
and brighten it up with several white posts.

I'd vote for option 1.

Consider finding someone to model the house and the options, providing a 3D rendering so you have an idea of how it will really look.

It looks like you have a large tract of land. Why not add the garage addition to the rear of the house somewhere so as not to be as visible? I think there is a danger of it looking like a Frankenhouse with too many pieces tacked on. To me unless it's really perfection or just necessity due to lot size, a garage should be behind a home and not command as much visual real estate.

We'll leave the architectural opinions to others, but don't forget the importance of landscaping in curb appeal. In addition to plantings, strategically placed hardscaping could help draw attention back to where you want it.
