Convert Deck around Above-ground Pool to Fire Pit area?

Our 27' round above-ground pool must have a new liner before it can be filled and used. The pool has a wood deck all around with a railing, so it is costly to have the liner replaced. We use the pool some, but could maybe do without it. So, I'm contemplating removing the pool and making the center part into a seating/conversation area with a fire pit in the center. The ground level area could be covered with gravel or pavers or some other hard fireproof material. If we made the fire pit 4' in diameter with 6" walls, it would be about 11' to the deck from the pit all around. Is this enough room for chairs etc. and far enough away to not cause a fire? Does this even sound feasible?

If we end up missing the pool this summer, we can purchase another one and install it in a different location. In that case, I would probably not build a deck all around to avoid the problem of a costly liner replacement job.

Not sure what to do!!??
