Using antique doors for sides of raised beds?

Jayele See

Has anyone here used old (i.e. antique) doors for raised beds? My local non-profit salvage store has hundreds of these made of oak, fir, pine, etc. for $10-$15. Most are shellacked; some are painted. I would like to make a total of 25 feet of raised beds approximately 16" high. I figure if I treat the doors and cut them down the middle, I could use them for the sides and save substantial money on lumber costs.

Has anyone ever done this and/or does anyone have any tips for me? I would hate to spend the time on this only to have them end up rotting on me. Thanks!
