Can roofers work in the rain?

Obviously, the best time to have roof work done is when it's not raining, but can you have work done while it's raining or do you need to wait until it stops? Wasn't sure if you had to have everything perfectly dry while it goes on?

I don't like the idea of falling off the roof.

wet roofs are slippery roofs.

you don't start a roof job when rain is in forecast.

if you have a surprise shower...the roof needs to

be tarped. Ideally one would have tarps at the

ready.

here in La. we get afternoon pop up showers...15-20 minutes

in the afternoon in summer (some afternoons). Luckily

by the time 3 pm rolled around, we would be rolling

up the air hoses.

Usually yes, roof work can be done in the rain. An exception would be if the rain negatively affected roof insulation.

A flat torch down, the two or three ply roof may not cooperate in the rain.

I don't like the idea of roofing in the rain, especially if the deck is exposed. It'll just trap moisture below the roofing and could initiate mold/rot

Not only are wet roofs slippery, there's also the danger of a lightning strike. Happened to a neighbor who was up on the roof in the rain when I was a kid.

Not only would I never ask a roofer to work in the rain, I just plain would never allow it.
