Not sure, mine always do it. Here's my eureka lemon tree, kinda hard to see it but the lighter leaves are the tip growth on existing branches.

Gorgeous! Yes I can definitely see the lighter coloration. Thanks Evan. I will be repotting the kumquat into 5-1-1 soon so I hope to see even more growth after that.

So just out of curiosity, how many lbs of fruit do you get off your trees per year? Wait that would be a good new thread, I'll start it now!

I have found that new growth starts at existing tip but occurs inward too. I have trees that I wish would set growth lower into the tree

Yeah I am going to start letting my trees that came shaped as trees bush out if they want.... A few of them keep trying to send out new branches lower down and I kept pinching them off until you guys advised me that I could let them grow out if the tree kept pushing them out.

I'll admit I haven't paid attention to this phenomenon specifically on my other citrus, but on my Oroblanco Grapefruit I have noticed it puts out growth both from nodes along the stem and at the tips of branches.

I also get growth directly from the trunk.

Yep that's what a few of mine are starting to do now after repotting into 5-1-1, and the most growth is coming from my thornless key lime which has barely grown at all in a year- finally some progress!

That's some vigorous growth guys, nice work!

I have a very gangly Meyer that is relatively new that is pushing out growth all along the stem. I'm happy to see this as it is very scrawny.
