I generally sow cactus seed on the surface, as the seedlings are very small and cannot push though much soil. If they are just barely covered they should be okay, but if they are very deep you may have a problem. Most germination happens from a few days to three weeks, though an occasional seedling can pop up much later.

Adult monkey tails are easily propagated by cuttings. Just cut the stem at the length you want, let the cut end dry for about a week, and plant in dry soil, with very little water until you see growth. Good luck!

I just bought some of the monkey tail cactus seeds too. It will be my first time trying to grow cactus seeds. I just started getting into succulents and cactuses.

I planted my monkey tail seeds..its been almost 3 weeks :-)..out of 10 seeds..

Just to mention that cacti are succulents (all cacti are succulents, but not all succulents are cacti)
