Gather Around Mamas Apron

As you all know I was considering and searching for a Front Load Washer. I believe I have found the perfect machine for me, no I know not every washer has everything for everyone, but I feel that the Whirlpool95 is the best washer for me and my needs. Finding one though was like looking for the needle in a haystack. People like these washers and since they have been discontinued they are almost impossiable to find. I've found a few but no one will split the set, if you want the washer you have to buy the dryer. I was given the name of a prefered service tech in my area by Whirlpool themselves whom I called and they gave me the name of a appliance dealer in my area to contact. When I called the dealer and told them Whirlpool sent me and that I was looking for the 95 series, they were very sorry they had none and it would be next to impossiable to find one. Several hours later this dealer called me, he found 1 in New Jersey and would be happy to have it shipped to his store. I was of course thrilled. I have an appt. at the dealers tomorrow to sign the papers and set up delivery of my Whirlpool 95..I'm very excited about this and my gut tells me this will be a good washer for me and the evil appliance demons will leave me alone LOL.

I Thank Roc, Larsi and Alex who have been working behind the scenes along with in the forum here to help me find the best machine for me, These three are truely good, kind, unselfish, giving, and beautiful friends who have worked tirelessly to lend their emotional and financial support in order for me to have this machine. My Apprication is HUGE, And I Thank You Larsi, Roc and Alex so very very much.

For the entire laundry room THANK YOU...i could never have found the washer for me without your support and endless posts of help, you are all a wonderful and helpful group of people that I am so lucky to know. Everyone of you contributed enormously to helping me find my washer, and I so appricate you.

THANK YOU ALL MY FAMILY OF FRIENDS!!!

On my machine, the Heavy Duty cycle and Whites cycles uses 100% tap hot when hot is selected. Normal does not, of course. However it is still quite warm. 110ish. The whites cycle also uses the most water of the three, while HD uses the least. That isn't a typo. Hopefully the newer style machines are different. Typically, I avoid HD and Bulky because the whites cycle is that good.

THank you all...I am reading the manual..ill get it.

The rationale behind the Steam option seems to be to activate heat-activated ingredients in the detergent (primarily oxygen bleach). Due to the slow spin after the wash, there is detergent water in the clothes that becomes heated during steam. It's probably similar to placing wrung out clothes in the microwave.

Of course, most detergents today contain bleach activators that work at 104°F (Persil's TAED) or even lower temps (Tide's Nonanoyloxybenzenesulfonate).

There's no minimum load in these washers - a single sock can be washed. Of course, trying to spin a single towel can be quite challenging, as American front loaders must work under less-than-optimal conditions. In Europe, homes are made from concrete, while wood is typically the material of choice in the States. Your homes are less forgiven towards vibrations coming from these uber-sized washing machines. Thus, manufacturers had to program the off-balance control extra sensitively to avoid "shaking the house down".

Anyway... what was I going to explain? *lol*

Ah, yes. The minimum amount of clothes is a sock and the maximum amount is 26 pounds, or to the top of the drum without packing/jamming clothes in on a regular cycle.

Why did I read a post about unplugging the washer? I don't unplug any of my digital appliances. We're never gone from the house longer than a week and even then have a pet sitter. The instructions say to plug into a grounded 3-prong outlet, don't use an adapter or extension cord. Guess I'm ignorant on electricity but only my computers are plugged into surge suppressors.

For a prewash, I'd recommend either a Rinse & Spin cycle (cold prewash) or the Quick Wash cycle (cold, warm, hot prewash). Quick Wash might also use more water than some of the normal cycles (since quick cycles usually compromise efficiency for speed).

Mama, you can help with that installation by having the following items available: flashlight and bucket. They should already have the adjustable wrench, adjustable pliers, level, measuring tape and a 4" block of wood to support the washer while they're adjusting the leveling feet.

I have the Kenmore Elite monster machine. I have all white bed linens, duvet, comforter, sheets, bed skirt...............and I wash the sheets weekly in the sanitary cycle, Tide Bleach Alternative Liquid HE...............that's it...........nothing else......they sparkle...............it removes blood and 2 dogs sleep with me.................no need to worry about dirty water, add the max amount of rinses, my machine has 5.

@moroseaz You'really lucky if you don't have power surges or voltage drops that are common in rural areas. The surge protectors on the computers and appliances that have computer boards are an extra measure of insurance that those boards won't fry if there is a surge. I have the protectors on my washer and sewing machines that are board sensitive. No you don't need them, but they help.

THank you all for your good advice.

I will for sure use a surge proctor, we have outtages frequently.

I'll figure out the prewash, I was thinking a cool quick wash

Roc..the soak will work for a prewash maybe..if it spins out after the soak...I can't find anything in the manual yet but I'm reading.

The Roper died today...it started making a loud clicking noise and it smelled hot. It was full of water so I shut it down for an hour and turned it on spin hoping to at least get that load spun out but after a few clicks it did nothing. so its dead. Good thing I only have a week to ten days to go...ohh I hate laundramats.

    As Larsi would say, :-0!

well that machine can't get to you soon enough! When is it coming?

Maybe your dealer can put a tracking number on LAR so you can follow and anticipate it's progress. I would certainly let the dealer know of your changed circumstances i.e no washer and your need of one ASAP. Do they do loaners?lol

    L(M)(A)O enduring. Yes :-O

Sorry MamaP! So, I am out a dryer and you are out a washer. Oh how awesome, if we were closer...we could wash and dry together. You could give me your laundry to wash, and then I would give you my clean laundry with your clean laundry and you could dry for us!!

I have 4 load of clothes, 2 load of sheets and 2 loads of towels piled up!! Ughhhhh, I need my dryer!!!!

I am sorry, Mama. Hope your machine comes quickly. Larsi, ditto on your machine. Hurry, delivery trucks!

Poor Roper. Such a good backup. So sorry mamapinky. But I try to look on the bright side. Perhaps it's a sign of a new laundry era to come.

I'm sorry Mama. Hopefully you get that new machine soon.

Thanks gang...I think Ropers problem is something on the motor ..its direct drive so not a belt..probably a cheap and easy fix. ..I'll play with it one day..but not now..as long as Roper was working I kept getting lemons..now that he's broke it means my new machine will be a winner...I think this is the laundry Gods way of telling me everything will be ok...LOL.

Yes Larsi if we lived closer I'd be doing more than drying your clothes...I'd be in your pool and sipping long island tea..haha.

I'm going to call the dealer in the morning and see if he can get the status of my new baby. I'm figuring it may have left New Jersey Yesterday..maybe...I'm guessing...and I could get a call any time...my order form does say...**Deliver ASAP** And the dealer told me when it arrives it will be a priority to deliver immediatly. Roper us going out and back to storage Thursday..I really should just get rid of it..but I'd like to tinker with it..Matt wants to take it to the scrap yard...but this is a good machine and no rust...I don't know ehat I'll do..store it a few weeks than tell Matt jyst take it..lol.

    Thanks guys...LOL

Oh and of course I have a vintage muslin sheet in the soup pot..with no washer..guess I'll change the water daily and just let it soak until my big, bad, sanitizing Duet arrives.. lol.

HEy...should I stack my Duet and SpeedQueen? Hahaha. . Just joking.

You could stack the SQ set and have the duet next door. That dryer would be busy.

Mama...START new and fresh. Retire and Recycle the Roper. Let Matt take it. Years of good service were provided. The Laundry Gods have taken Roper from you, let her go!!!

    mamapinky0 thanked larsi_gw

Sorry your Roper died now too mamapinky! Yes, thank goodness your Duet is on it's way soon. I don't like laundromats much either. I had a WP Duet set once. Purchased in 2005. Used it until we moved in 2011 and the set was sold with the house. It was a real workhorse for me. 5 young kids and cloth diapers too. Did a good job on everything. The door gasket needed replacing about 5 years in. Never needed a service call in that time at all! A tip for you-If it ever has trouble draining, unplug your maching and unscrew your filter cap. Amazing what you can find in there! Give it a good clean out and put it back together and it's good to go. Maybe the newer models are different. But in my model, you just had to unscrew the front bottom panel, and it was right there in the front. A round plug thing you just turn to open. Be ready with something to catch the water that will come out once you open it though. A few old towels work good.

    mamapinky0 thanked Kathy W.

Thank You Kathy..I think my drain filter thingy isn't on the front anymore. But I'm careful about loose buttons and pockets and I run a huge lint brush the sticky ones over bedding before I strip them to collect human and doggie hair. hopefully this helps some. I'm glad you had good service with your Duet. They seem to have a large amount of folks liking them which is good.

Larsi, ya your right..I'm not gonna use Roper again..and as long as its hanging around I have a crutch..ok..its going..lol.

With the redesign of the cabinets, there is no longer a removable lower panel to access the drain/pump filter. The whole front of the cabinet has to be removed, from what I hear not easy.

Sounds like the coupler broke on the Roper . Very cheap fix, under $5 for a new one on eBay and simple to install. Instead of throwing it away some family without a washer would probably like to have it. If nothing else post it in the laundromat. May be a lot of life left in it yet.

Moroseaz, do you wash comforters in your duet? If so what size and type do you wash? Thank You.

Just an idea. If your new whirlpool is significantly delayed. Think about your cost at the laundromat NOT including detergent which you already have and compare that cost with the price of the used machines you wrote about earlier with the buy back provision. Think about it as a rental fee. Is the cost close to what you would spend at the laundromat? Around here a load with dryer is around $4 per load. With the way you do loads, that could quickly pay for itself.

How do you find a word that means...WHOOOHOOO

I called the dealer with the status of the washer....its arriving at the dealers TODAY..and will be delivered to me tomorrow...they will confirm this with me later today when they actually receive the washer....omg..I'm not ready..lol...ok folks no play time today..I have to finish the laundry room. LOL. Hubs thought he was going into work tomorrow on his off day, NOT...he will be worthless after what we have to do tonight..lol.

OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG. Ok MamaP....you have my Cell #, so I am going to have our hotline up and ready for any & all FL questions you have! LOL

I am SO Excited for you!!!!!

I will be thinking of you today & tomorrow, as I hang up my (cannot use the adjective I want) laundry on the (cannot use the adjective I want) clothesline!! ;)

THanks friends...I'm a nervous wreck..in a good way...you would die if you seen my laundry room now..detergents everywhere..sorting out what stays and what gets locked up...but I have all day and tonight..I'll be ready...to bad I can't cook tonight..will have to be soup and a sandwich. ..I have more important work to do. And tomorrow I'm really going to be busy..so it might have to be hot fudge sundaes for dinner..lol

Yes we can do this..easy as pie crust..one step at a time..but think I need something more soiled than white sheets that are changed every three days for a first load..I just happen to have a load of flour sack kitchen towels..used as washable paper towels ready ...sanitize cycle...Persil Perls, Euro style, a eyedropper to dispense detergent, a small narrow rocking chair, cheese cake and hot tea cream and sugar..I will be ready. Sad thing is I don't think my machine has a light....so my powerful flashlight loaded with 1, 700 D batteries will have to suffice. Buckle up everyone..were all in for a ride.

    mama needs a head lamp!

Flash light? The bright interior light of the washer stays ln throughout the entire cycle. ;)

Oh WOW Mama...that was fast. You better get cracking on sprucing up the laundry area.

    Don't forget pictures.

SO happy it's on its way. Woohoo indeed! And how lucky that your washer has a full-cycle interior light. Jealous! Will make pics/video so much easier.

I thought the interior light was on the model before the 95. Moroseaz???

I called that man that rebuilds older washers and sells them cheap 75 bucks depending parts put in...he's stopping today or tomorrow for Roper..so someone else will eventually be using it..lol.

Chip has been helping me unload the laundry room lol..Tonight I have to run to laundramat..I have a heavy braided 3x5 rug in the laundry room that needs washed in the heavy duty FL washer..I want it clean and ready. Its very heavy...much to much for LAR. Besides I wwon't wash rugs in a home machine unless it small bath mats with no backing.

Ok break over..I'll return in a bit..this old carcass can only go for short times. Lol.

Helllppppp...HAH...omg they are on their way NOW..to my house...with my washer...I will be outside..taking pics....OMG...I called hubs at work to get home NOW..OMG.

WHere are my boys and Roc..I'm not ready...you know this will go smoothly and everything will be fine...hubs arrived home..and we got Roper out of the Laundry Room. ..my house is a disaster.lol.

Your house is fine. They're delivering a washer not judging the perfect housekeeper contest.

Trust me, Mama, you need that washer NOW not tomorrow. The drum light comes on when you open the door and off after a few seconds or when you turn off the washer. Yes, you have two buttons - one turns on and off the washer and the other one starts the cycle. You can press the cycle start and turn on the washer but you might not be able to open the door if the washer is on. There are some safety features about when you can and can't just open the door so don't jerk on it when you think the laundry is finished, especially if you have the Fan Fresh option on. After all these years, I still forget once in awhile that the washer door lock is engaged while the machine is ON, even if it doesn't seem to be doing anything at the moment, lol. It's smarter than me, thank God. I can see some Herculean guy rip the door off because he thinks it's stuck.

Largest comforter size I'd go with is standard King or Queen bedspread. I have an over-sized King comforter that only recommends a commercial size washer - disappointing for me since I was used to washing all my bedding regularly. Stupid tag was folded deep inside the comforter when I bought it and the packaging said it was machine washable. Argh... Fortunately, I only use it about 4 months of the year so I'll deal with it. Mostly use light quilts, light blankets, or coverlets/throws the rest of the year. They all get cat fur and have to be washed.

Hooking up..leveling now...lol...more to come...but it sure is pretty

MAMA....I am home and here for you, if you need to call!! SO excited for you, as I scream hanging up bath towels on the clothesline,,,that in several hours will be not much different from small grain sand paper :-O LOL
