Where would you purchase unfinished kitchen cabinet doors from?

DIY Refacing: If you needed to purchase 25+ nice quality, unfinished maple or clear alder cabinet doors (raised panel) and drawer fronts that will be professionally stained/finished, where would you purchase them from? All comments welcome. Thanks!

P.S. or might purchase cherry doors...depends on how pricing ends up.

Thanks for the input. Would love to hear from some more Houzzers!

Three people voted for "Other" .... I would definitely like to know where you would buy them, if not from local woodworking shop, Barker Doors, or Raw Doors. Please chime in if you have any input - thanks!!

Before you decide where, you may what to consider "what". What grade of wood the doors are. The grade A doors will be a clearer, less color variation. Grade B may have small knots, more color variation. Be sure to see door samples before purchasing. As you want to get the best value for the money you spend.

I am in need of cabinet doors as well. Looking forward to the results of your poll. Just curious, will you paint the doors yourself or have someone paint them professionally?

You can try American Door and Drawer, Inc. out of Georgia. If you purchase unpainted doors/drawers, it is best to have them painted or finished by a professional. Note that every person who has a ladder and paint brush is not necessarily a professional.

Capozzi, Kathy, Deborah - Thank you! I am looking for Grade A and will have them professionally stained/finished (would love to save the $ and do it myself, but they would not look professional!); I've got a great shop lined up for this and recommendations from friends who have used them. I have heard from many people who feel it's well worth the cost to have them professionally done (I don't want to have to re-do in 10 yrs!), though I know others who have meticulously followed all the necessary finishing steps and they've turned out great with DIY. I will definitely check on American Door and Drawer, Inc. Thanks!

Measuring for the new doors and drawers fronts is crucial, if you have exposed hinges now and duplicate those measurements for cup hinges you are going to have a problem.

Norm - Thanks for the reminder! I am on it. Researching/reading and looking at (measuring) store displays to come up with the measurements I will need for full overlay doors with concealed hinges (vs. the traditional overlay that I currently have). I may have to bug you if I have questions ;)

summit - Thank you....I will check Wallzcraf out as well!

Julie, you mentioned above that you are trying to convert from a traditional overlay to a full overlay. This would indicate that you have face frame cabinetry. As far as I know, the most you can achieve with a face frame and the hinges on the market is a 3/4 overlay. You need to check this out very carefully before ordering anything. Good Luck.

Deborah is right! I researched this issue for past discussions and could not come up with a hinge that will allow the face frame cabinet to have a full overlay door without notching the heck out of the face frame.

Houzz should really indicate the general geography of the person posing a question. For the style of door you are proposing I would recommend Ruckmans in Puyallup, WA. They are very reasonably priced. We have a cabinet shop and we sub all our shaker doors and dovetail drawers to them as we can't compete on price.

Thanks, Deborah and Ironwood - I should have clarified....I am going for the "mostly full overlay" look :) I can get about 98%! Will have 1/4" not covered by the door on the left side and right side of each cabinet. Will have 1/2" not covered by the door at the top and bottom of each cabinet to allow for crown molding, bottom molding, etc. I have investigated and have seen lovely cabinets in two different cabinet shops that are the "mostly full overlay" doors on cabinets with face frames. Love the stability provided with face frame, and those cabinets look great! And as Norm said in a post a couple of weeks ago, "It's all in the hinge...." Thanks for looking out for me :)

Hi Julie, Someone told me to see if you ever found those unfinished doors you were looking for. If you are still looking, we have those here: http://www.cabinetnow.com/squared-raised-panel/delaware I know it's quite a bit late in the game on mentioning that, but in case you are ever looking again...

CabinetNow - Thank you for the message. I did a bunch of investigating and checked out many options mentioned on Houzz. Because of many different factors that came into play, I ended up giving up on the DIY refacing and going with all new cabinets. Very roughly, it looked like the DIY refacing (and adding a couple of new cabinets) wasn't really going to be a whole lot less than purchasing new cabinets, and I wasn't sure we could do a good job. The savings account suffered a bit more, but I am thrilled with the new cabinets (installation was finished today in fact ... and it has been going on for six+ weeks .... hubby did it on a part-time, "as I have time and when I feel like it", basis). Good to know you are out there, though!!

    Hi there-
We are also about to order new cabinet doors. We thought we were going with Cabinet Door World, but now see quite a few bad reviews. We're doing 1 1/2" overlay hinges to replace old-school outer hinges. Would love any recommendations of a great place to order. Thanks!

i chose cabdoor in salem, OR because they are closer to me and their shaker doors are thicker (center panel); 3/4" vs 5.2mm barker door.

CK L did you get the mdf center panel or solid wood?

I got the MDF center panel. If I wanted cabdoor.com to paint the doors for me with conversion varnish, I had to go with MDF center panel.

CabinetNow was fantastic. Helped us with fronts when we added new upper and lower boxes. Great build your own feature with many options.
