Bathroom faucets -- what did you pick and why?

Would love to see pictures or product links too! I'm experiencing decision fatigue. :)

Again you might have better luck asking this on the bath forum. :)

What do you mean by "again"? This is the first time I've asked.

I'm sorry arialvetica. I had just mentioned the bath forum to someone else on here who was asking about tile. I know it wasn't you, but the again was thinking about the other thread.

I've been hoarding some discontinued Grohe F-1 faucets and amassing a complete set via eBay, Amazon and other discount home products sites for YEARS. I just about have the complete house. They were so ridiculously expensive when they were first sold I would have NEVER even considered them - but I am enamored with the Porsche design functionality and the heft and finishes of these things.

(I hope I live long enough to see them installed)

We went with Grohe because we wanted high quality and liked the look. They were actually cheaper than a full Kohler package.

Ikea. BEST bang for the buck there is.

We used a fairly generic Delta faucet for the Master. We were on a very tight budget, and the bathroom faucet isn't all that important to us. We had to splurge in the powder room, though, because the antique corner sink doesn't have standard drillings, or a center hole. Buying this pretty adjustable bridge faucet made my 'bargain' sink rather expensive!

We also went with generic options, but my decision was guided by a couple of principles. First, I wanted a single handle. I like the look of the double handle, but they are not as practical and easy to adjust. Second, I hate, hate, hate the drain plugs with the pull-up plunger on the back of the faucet. I rarely (OK, never) use the plug anyway, but it makes it harder to clean and you have to make sure the mirror allows clearance, etc. Plus they never seem to work well anyway. So I purposely chose a style with a popup drain plug and no pull handle. They are sleek, easy to clean, and look great!

I like a modern-ish aesthetic, but wanted to be more conservative with the budget so we went with mostly delta trinsic

chellefnp - so what did you end up with? Your reasoning is appealing!

arialvetica - We're still deciding and I completely understand your design fatigue although I truly feel silly and guilty for even thinking that way. We're Moen fans so will probably use them again - can't be beat on service. I do care about how the faucets look but in all honesty, once they're installed, all I want is for them to work and not make me think about them again. I'm torn wanting things to look as if they've been in place and contribute to a settled, somewhat vintage vibe - but also want clean, simple and modern. Eenie meenie miney mo...

We went with the Pfister single-handled Selia ones in brushed nickel. So far I've really liked them. I know the more basic brands get dissed here a lot, but honestly I had builder grade cheapos in every house I've ever lived in, and I've never had to replace a single one. So I focused on the practical, and they were only about $75 each. I also had to find one that would work under the mirrors I chose, which have a ledge at the bottom.

Chell, do you put anything on the ledge of your mirror?

Well, my plan was no :) But we end up keeping a bottle of ibuprofen there on one of them. The dark wood does show dust, so keeping it open makes it easier to dust.

I mixed up the fixtures depending on the space.

delta Lahara, brizo venuto and baliza, kohler archer

always 8" set or shank. No 4" set as they are a pain to clean.

stainless steel/brushed or chrome plated. Bronze or brass just don't look right to for bath fixtures

We went with single handled Delta Trinsic in the boys bathroom (both college kids) I paired it with tumbled 4x6 travertine and Giallo Ornamental granite for a bit of a modern touch with all of the earthy stone. I purchased from Moore Kitchen and Bath and this was not the retail price. I paid less/

and for the master bath, we went with Brizo, a Delta Company and chose Charlotte in Cocoa and polished nickle. It was pretty new on the market in Dec. 2014 and the finish has held up perfectly. The lighting doesn't do the piece justice. It was high and I cut back elsewhere to do the Brizo because I loved it that much and it still does every time I look at it.

Ensuite - I purchased a shower column from Amazon for our stand-up shower. It is absolutely amazing. I purchased it based on reviews, functionality and the fact that it came with a separate hand-held which you definitely need to clean if you don't want to be scrubbing down with a bucket of water. We are very impressed with it thus far. Well worth the money and way cheaper than what you would buy something like this in store for (I'm in Canada)

    https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B00J9R9A38/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

My vanity faucets are Moen Boardwalk ($129 each). I hate double handles as it's a pain to clean between them (if it's all one unit) I just prefer single anyways. I went with chrome because the handles on the vanity and my lighting were also chrome so it just all flows. I didn't use the base plate (as seen in the pic) on mine. Ugly haha!

    http://www.moen.ca/boardwalk/chrome-one-handle-bathroom-faucet/_/R-CA-CONSUMER%3AWS84805

Main Bath - We got the faucet free with the purchase of the vanity so I am unsure of what brand it is or how much it cost. It's nice but we discovered that the water flows too closely to the edge of the sink so we'll need to replace it with a higher one.

For the shower I got a basic set, Pfister Solita in chrome. I wanted to be able to pull the head off to clean the tiling in the shower. This one is more for functionality than looks.

    http://www.pfisterfaucets.com/bath/product/solita-tub-shower-combo-8p8-socc

What was important to me was functionality, look and ease of cleaning. In that order.

    Will post pic later.

I have a variety of brands (mostly Kohler) but they're all single handle. I don't like fiddling back and forth with two different knobs to get the right temp. And if my hands are soapy or goopy (like when I'm cooking) it's easier to nudge a single lever than to deal with two knobs.

I went with the Cassidy line by Delta in our two main bathrooms. I've always had good luck wth Delta. This particular line also had the finish I wanted and you get to choose from three different handle options:

We fell in love with the Delta Victorian collection, but we are 'old romantics'. I've never liked single-handled faucets - I instinctively turn them the wrong way and burn myself, while I've never had that happen with two-handled faucets. As long as your faucets have levers, and not knobs, they are wonderfully easy to turn on/off with the back of the hand (when your hands are dirty)

jdez I am SO glad to read your comment. Attempting perfection as if ANY of this is going to matter long term is driving me a bit nuts! Of course I want it to look nice, of course I want things to work well but there's a limit to how much of my time and thought I'm willing to put in on this, ya know? There are far more important things going on in the world and with people I love and the last few days I've reached my saturation point on worrying about house selections.

In my master I used faucets and accessories from Waterdecor. Made right here in California. Very happy with the quality, solid materials and the way they are handling daily use.
    http://waterdecor.com/ProductDetails.asp?cat=All&item=10010-080

In the secondary bathrooms I used faucets and accessories from Newport Brass. I would NOT use Newport Brass again. The materials feel solid and the faucets looks nice, but I have to constantly tighten the hex/set screws so that things don't fall apart. I have never had faucets or accessories have this problem. I will probably end up using some locktight to keep the set screws in place, but not something that should happen with a "premium" brand.

    chispa

use some semi-permanent threadlocker in those screws to help keep them in place. Like the Coco and Marcelle line. Never heard of this company before!

    jdez/dlm,

I think thats a double edge sword. If you put something in that you're not too thrilled about then you will notice it. My last new construction home I bought had (neutral looking) fixtures selected by the builder. Year 6 I still noticed how I didn't like the lighting and plumbing fixtures. Perhaps you're taking them for granted now, lol?

chispa I'd never heard of that line either and they have a dealer about 10 miles from me. Love that they are USA made. Did you link to the set you have? Very handsome!

whaas I love much of what we've chosen for our build and am doing my best not to use anything I don't at least like enough to live with it long term. For me, not everything can or needs to be the *be all end all* in terms of design nor could I afford to make every single choice something that makes me swoon! And I'm ok with taking things for granted a bit if they work well and aren't butt ugly ;-) We have a no-budget mentality (within reason and based on our particulars) for some things like a full brick house and the windows and doors we chose - but not for faucets.

Dana Matheson I like that Boardwalk faucet - a lot - it's classic but crisp looking. Can't find anyone who has the chrome in stock though, and something about the way the back order info is written makes me worry that an order might never get filled.

DLM, yes I have 2 of the Coco faucets with levers, in chrome. I like my faucets to have a nice extension into the sink and height, so that you aren't squishing your hands all the way in the back of the sink to get them washed. Really wish I had used the waterdecor brand in the other baths too.

Whaas, will look into the threadlocker. Thanks. Which reminds me I should go around and tighten all those set screws before I head out of town ... DH and kids will be home, but they aren't that into home maintenance!!

I too had reached my 'saturation point' (love that phrase DLM) by that time. We have the same faucets for the master and the kids bath. I did choose something different for the powder room. I was on a mission to not overspend on faucets of all things.

I used a major brand for all of them but I can tell the powder room faucet is a little nicer (and it was a little more money) because it LOOKS better most of the time. It's easier to clean yet they both have the same finish. Go figure. So while it's nothing major and I like single handle faucets also it sure would be nice to have them stay looking clean longer than the first time the water comes on after you've scrubbed it. ;)

Powder room: Delta Cassidy - I like the style of this one so I splurged a little on 1 faucet.

Kids and Master bath: Delta Lahara

See the groove on the spout? It really is a seam and it gets gunk in there. Not loving it or the style but I really didn't care at that point. Not my favorite but honestly I don't give it a second thought.

I went with the exact same Delta Cassidy faucet as autumn.4. Wanted a single handle for ease of use/cleanliness, and thought this model looked elegant.

Brizo Tresa in the kitchen and wine grotto. Moen Kinglsey in master bathroom and powder. Doing polished chrome in kitchen and master because I like the sparkle and it goes well with marble countertops. In the wine grotto and half bath, will likely do oil rubbed bronze or stainless (black countertops in those areas).

jdez: read your comment. what things would you spend your time on selecting if you had to do it again?

    last modified: 9 years ago

french toast - if I had it to do over, I would simply buy the first thing I saw that I liked instead of spending hours reading reviews and trying to find that one perfect thing that is out there somewhere that I just haven't found yet. I am not trying to discourage anyone from shopping of course, it's just that in hindsight, I can see that I put way too much time and effort into some things that haven't made much difference. I am so obsessive that it took me a week to find the perfect doorbell button because I wanted a certain plain look that Lowe's didn't have. See what I mean? I could've just bought a little white plastic doorbell button and been fine. I don't even notice it. Never even take a second glance at it. The things that I would spend more time on if I did it again would be the overall design of the outdoor spaces which is where we spend most of our time. We didn't put much thought into it. We love our back porch but what could it have been if we had met with an architect and told him/her that we would practically live out there? Sorry for getting off course ariel.

Dana Matheson wrote, "I didn't use the base plate (as seen in the pic) on mine. Ugly haha!"

Dana, what did you do/use to cover the two side holes? Or was your vanity not pre-drilled?

    Thanks!

    It's a crazy mix.

Why? Because we wanted certain features(local water conservation codes), and we also wanted to save money, and we also wanted it to look pretty...

    Little did we know.

So: diverter/ handle in the shower is Delta, shower head is Kohler, hand held shower thing is Brizo(which is Delta line I guess?), tub faucet plus telephone shower and vanity faucets are Signature Hardware and I expect them to be a huge headache even though they are cute..

I forgot what brand is this thingy-magingy that holds the shower head in the shower:) It might be Delta or Kohler. We had to look for it too, for inadequate amount of time. This brand has only size X in stock, while you need size Y; and that brand-has only different finish in stock...Tiresome, to say the least.

If I only knew how much energy and time it will take to put together this stupid polished nickel puzzle, I'd just order an expensive set I loved right away. We still had to tweak, return parts, order parts (not exactly our fault but there was a hiccup with measurements, on the builder's part), and lost some money on that too. And maybe it even wouldn't be polished nickel. Don't know why we thought polished nickel is readily available in every model and arrives the next day..))) The reality is very very different.

In short. Don't do it. Don't be like inexperienced us. Health is more important. Just order everything at once and make sure you like it. You'll pay more maybe, but save on Advil..)))

PS I'm describing master bath only..:) Don't want to bore you even more lol
