new office furniture and arrangement

My sister and I work together sharing an office. The office is actually a one-bedroom apartment. The living room area of the apartment is used as reception and our rental manager has his desk in this area. I guess I'd describe the style of the furniture in this area as transitional.

The bedroom is what we use as our office. It is currently furnished with big, clunky, dark "executive style" desk, computer desk with hutch, a couple of visitors chairs, a floor lamp, and desk lamp. All very traditional style, which is not our style at all. All the furniture, lamps, etc., are going.

Our home styles tend to be pretty eclectic, not matchy, some traditional pieces, some asian pieces, some contemporary/modern pieces. We can't go too overboard with our style preferences since building residents are often around the office and potential new tenants sometimes are shown the office/apartment as an example of the size of our one-bedroom units.

The room itself has white-ish walls, which we probably don't want to change right now. The carpet is pretty non-descript. The usual speckled office type carpet in shades of blues, greens, some tan - overall quite dark.

The current layout is just not good for working together. I'm going to try and post the room dimensions (fingers crossed, never done this before). What I am envisioning is a u-shaped working area, with desks facing the two longer walls (our backs would be to each other) and a long table or something along the window wall where we could put the shared equipment (printer, etc.).

I'm also thinking that our desks will be more like writing desks so the open legs make the room feel more spacious. We will probably each need a two-drawer filing cabinet and possibly another couple of filing drawers elsewhere in the room.

Can I get ideas from any of you design gurus for what might work? I've been pouring over office furniture websites and so much that I see is soooo boring and stuffy and matchy.

Also, sorry for the lengthy post. I was trying to get all my thoughts together.

(in the photo of the room dimensions, there is a floor-to-ceiling white board on one wall. That can be moved but needs to be somewhere in the room).
